On The Street.....66th St., Manhattan

I love how well the subtle textures of her dress, tights and socks all work together.
Her look could almost be called Minimalist but there is actually so much going on here - Jil would be proud.

Although I usually agree with most of your comments on pictures, I really don't see what you see in this look. Everything is shapeless and ordinary... All those shades of beige do not compliment her complexion!!!

Keep up the great work though! I enjoy your blog

Call me crazy, but I'll never get used to the socks with heels look.... but I do love the shoes by themselves.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

Gold with gray, great combination!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:03 AM) :

Not liking the loose-fitting dress and long cardi, they're a bit granny-like. The stockings + socks + heels combo however, look very chic - very Prada.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:17 AM) :

OMG,her stockings have dropped.....wonder what will follow!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:23 AM) :

Love the dress, think it's from H&M, or am I wrong?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:28 AM) :

It looks so right...the colors, the textures, the volumes. She could be part of a magazine layout yet feels so right for the street. Bravo!
Could she be a ballet dancer? I can imagine Julie Kent in this...

Totally stealable. Love the gold shoes for day with the socks and tights. The socks-heels-mini combo could be tarty in other contexts, but this is just cool because she keeps everything loose and neutral and fresh.

Not a big fan of the cardigan, though...(sorry).

Man, I'm totally addicted to your blog. I have got to get some work done. But you just keep posting these awesome pics...

Oh that dress... I saw it at H&M in August and I hate myself for not buying it.. Oh well, this too shall pass.. ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:55 AM) :

Oh, lovely H&M-dress :D Lovely style altogether, would've changed the color of the cardigan though. Or maybe not? hmm..

Love the image of the leggings, socks and heels. This person is trying to follow the Prada thing from last year, but not getting the sensibility of Miucia: her venture is to airy and minute. If she were to be more dramatic with the textures her attempt might look better, and more mature.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:19 PM) :

Why can't all women dress like this?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:00 PM) :

This lady is chic beyond belief, her ensemble is gorgeous. This is something I would wear.

I am thankful for The Sartorialist.

You're right, Lisa, it's from H&M. I bought it on sale over the summer.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

You are so right. It is so Jil Sander!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:51 PM) :

Sart! What a great look! Love it (including the cardigan)! Her shoes are a perfect accent for her outfit. And the socks over tights work so well. From this angle, we can't see her bag. Was there anything about the bag worth noting?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:36 PM) :

The dress does nothing for me. It looks shapeless and like it's been too many times in a hot dryer. The shoes are cute, but I don't think many people could pull off the look with the socks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:03 PM) :

she's great -- gotta be a dancer.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:09 PM) :

I really love the trio socks+tights+heels, it seems so simple, but it's so difficult to not miss the point.
This a girl who think different and show it !

Keep up your good work The Sarto !

I like the idea but don't appreciate the execution of this one.

Note to self find skin color tights (not easy for us darked skinned girls).

May flaunt this style a few times before the snow falls. Thanks, Sart!

Wasn't she cold? I've been freezing my a** off lately. (But perhaps that's because I'm a California girl living in NYC.)

Like the pic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 PM) :

Like the ensemble minus the cardigan, looks too worn. Shoes/socks are pretty cool. A dancer image just came to mind when I saw it. Daring as I wouldn't be comfortable to wear this although I wish I could.

this is very graceful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 PM) :

tres chic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:22 AM) :

Great stuff.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:39 AM) :

the cardigan definitely works as loose... less deliberate, is able to go beyond just what it is

Blogger Milton T said ... (9:08 AM) :

Perfect...

Blogger marie said ... (12:25 PM) :

I have never seen socks with heels, but it appears this look could work so long as the socks are not "bunched up."

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:55 PM) :

Agree with fabulous fabs! Drab and shapeless and the charwoman socks don't lend any pizzazz.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:32 AM) :

i can see this look rocking on omotesando. maybe on a younger woman?
i like it much. i love how she's not outlandish with the textures... it's a bit teasing 'come closer, and it gets better'.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:25 PM) :

Super chic and perfect for her figure.
She must be a dancer!
I love how understated the colors are--
Subtley is key.
The shoes are fabulous.
She's definetly a NYC lady.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:05 AM) :

Personally, i like the slouchy/loose cardigan. I think if she was to wear a more fitted one, she would look extremely doll-esque. Perhaps it would look better without one completely.. but I do like the combination in any case. I love all the textures mixed together! It's a great outfit!

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (8:51 PM) :

I always thought that the ankle socks with Mary Janes look was naff, or puerile, but here it's absolutely perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 PM) :

that looks like sally singer of vogue - didnt know she had such great legs

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 AM) :

I only heard of your blog today through naijablog.I think this ensemble is fantastic! The only part that seems thought out are the socks and the shoes which I totally love. I think the nudes with the dress and sweater with the necklace is brilliant as well. Keep up the great work.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:35 PM) :

might sound strange but she has a lovely long neck. She's left it all a bit bare.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

My favorite Miu Miu shoes ever - from Fall 03

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:40 PM) :

oh. just. perfect!

Blogger AL said ... (1:22 AM) :

This is a look that is so perfect on somebody else... not for me (darker skin and much shorter).

But ohh sooo lovely to look at, indeed a style find!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:02 AM) :

with those shoes, i'd like to see some jazz hands
