I'm of two minds about this. Though he's got it all together--the palette, the shoes, all the disparate elements, it doesn't quite add up. Something too conventional here, I'd say.

PS, I once had a shrink who looked and dressed very much like this. Enough said?

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:35 AM) :

Wow - impressive. Those shoes are divine. Love how the bag picks up the same tan from his jacket.

Now *this* is a true Sartorialist. Seriously dashing, seriously inspiring. Papi's got mad style. I only wish I could get my husband to dress this way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 AM) :

All hail Boyer!

(Although the tote bag doesn't really do it for me...)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 AM) :

You can always spot a truly great dresser by the telling details... I love the way Mr. Boyer angles his tie clip opposite to the stripes on his tie.

Not suprising from the man who recently published "Fred Astaire Style" and a wonderful touch.

i love the close-up shot. so many wonderful colors and patterns and textures. very fallish too

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:37 AM) :

the narrow tie and 4-in-hand knot works surprisingly well with the high spread collar

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:39 AM) :

Really don't like the pants though. The fit, the color, the cuff at the bottom. Waist up he looks great.

Venga majete deja a los neoyorkinos y animate con los sevillanos que verás que fauna...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:08 AM) :

Very few people do it better than he does. Three patterns all in harmony.

Good catch Scott.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

I love his tie!

Blogger marie said ... (11:47 AM) :

I love the combination of colors and textures. They blend so well together!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 AM) :

perfect color and pattern combo!

Bruce is one of the finest writers on menswear and a great sartorialist! I have often tried to copy him and I just can't look as good. His style is so simple and elegant.

This is why I read your blog everyday.

Here is how I would like to dress anyday and everyday ...great great greeeeat look ....love all the neutral and earthtone colors playing with one another ....you could change shirt for different color and it would not matter ..you change shoes and belt and it would not matter and so on ....beautiful.....I also love the bag ....really make the whole outfit look comfortable and natural. I also feel that it is always a good idea to one of these collapsabletravel bags ....especially if you making a trip to a store or grocer...stylish look and yet very practical.
While I love a good well made, soft hand-made leather briefcase, depending on where he was going it could make the look quite a bit more " official business".
Thanks

Very well put together, but there's far too much pattern when you remove the overcoat. I'm of the opinion that a solid coloured shirt would've fared better with the outfit.

Nontheless, a well-dressed gent.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

PERFECT!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 PM) :

Is that a man bag, or a shopping bag? Either way it goes very well with the colours of his outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:44 PM) :

he's got on fred astaire shoes...i wonder what color his socks are.

Blogger DK said ... (6:10 PM) :

This is great. Again, we shouldn't get hung up on the "modern" way that a man/woman should dress.

The colors are great and they go wonderfully together. I like the quirky way that he has his hand stuck in his jacket pocket versus that of his trousers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 PM) :

I know that tie bar is vintage. Wish I could see what was on it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:45 PM) :

It the bag from Filson? I think it is the one profiled in GQ a couple of months ago.

Great blog Sart! Best on the web!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 AM) :

Isn't it the same Longchamp bag from Comme des Garçons, Chelsea, a few shots down?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 AM) :

The colours are great - and call me weird but I just cant help noticing how cool the buttonholes are! .....>_<

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:34 AM) :

Even the bag is color-coordinated...amazing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:07 AM) :

Sexiest man alive!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 PM) :

Interesting seeing a man carrying a Longchamp pliage.
It's classic...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 PM) :

I am a little bothered that his bag matches his coat so well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM) :

PAR EXCELLENCE

Blogger Regina said ... (4:52 PM) :

I'm just in love with this look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

This guy looks very, very good in just about every detail: jacket, tie, shirt, pants with perfect drape and suede shoes. The only bum note is the tie pin but for all this brilliance we'll forgive him.

Blogger OTC said ... (8:47 PM) :

One of the best writers on men's style ever to lay pen to paper. If you get the chance, and can find a copy, read "Elegance: A Guide to Quality in Menswear". It's a classic, perhaps my favorite book on the subject.

Thanks Sart, for reminding us why he is the definition of classic style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:47 AM) :

Talk about style and panache!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:33 PM) :

Love the added touch of the tote bag.

Blogger AL said ... (1:02 AM) :

Seriously good this.
So many shades and someone it just blends so well here. the touch of blue and the tie. Wow. Hot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:38 PM) :

Boyer rocks...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 AM) :

Thanks for letting us see that there are still some sane people in NYC.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:02 PM) :

The cut is perfect. I would have chosen a slightly darker blue in the shirt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:00 PM) :

the tie is Atkinsons Irish poplin by the look of it,not too wide thank god perhaps a classic example
