She looks natural and beautiful. The bright yellow really pops against her skin.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

The dress is a perfect complement to her skin color. I notice in the Harlem shots all of the dark splotches of dried gum on the sidewalk--as a former resident, this little detail really brings me back. Thanks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 AM) :

She reminds me of the song: Summer Breeze!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

Wowser. The dress and sandles, the arms and legs, the smile--there is no stopping this combination.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 AM) :

I love her dress, she looks smart and beautiful

Blogger spring flowers said ... (9:40 AM) :

Just beautiful. Amazing body, gorgeous smile, soft, flowing hair, and great dress. She exudes beauty through her simplistic and natural look. I only wish that color could produce an equally stunning effect against my skin tone. Wonder where she got the dress, and if it comes in other colors... (?)

Blogger pumpkin said ... (9:45 AM) :

and the perfect hair, complexion, and body don't hurt either...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 AM) :

That's a series of car accidents waiting to happen!

Yellow can be so nice on our skin but we often take it to the extreme. This young lady has found such a great balance.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

The color is magnificent with her skin but what is going on at the hemline?

Blogger Laguna Beach Fogey said ... (9:52 AM) :

Wow! Beautiful is right! Amazing colour, amazing girl. This is a great photo, Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 AM) :

such a pretty woman! the smile makes her even more beautiful. she just looks perfect.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:03 AM) :

gI love the hemline of this dress. It matches the waves in her hair. A gorgeous summer look.

Blogger Françoise said ... (10:09 AM) :

That combination of the yellow against her dark skin is amazing, and she knew it would be. She's a walking bright sunshine.

Blogger maria said ... (11:44 AM) :

I'm lovin this Harlem session... beautiful, inspiring, so bright

Blogger Gretta said ... (11:44 AM) :

Absolutely gorgeous!!! This whole shot just makes me happy. I love yellow, and smiling people.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:59 AM) :

less is more! looks great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 PM) :

Very pretty girl and smile (and dress)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

I can't comment on the dress because I have no idea what its hemline and shape are meant to be like. It's just acting as a beacon of colour drawing attention to this extraordinary young lady.

Her imposing stature, defined muscularity and perfect mahogany skin look like the creation of an heroic idealist sculptor. Her powerful build brings to mind the athleticism and contained energy of Venus Williams, although I think this young lady has a much prettier face.

This photo looks to me the way classical or allegorical statuary looks when hastily draped with whatever is at hand against the easily-offended eyes of religious zealots. I have no doubt that she would look better nude.

Given that she can't go about nude in the city, I'm sure there are better style choices for cool, inexpensive dresses that might better compliment her formidable physique. The colour, however, is a winner.

Your pictures of Harlem are just so great. Where else would we see such pics? The bright yellow suits her perfectly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:02 PM) :

she's so fresh and beautiful- and such perfect skin

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 PM) :

E.Z. Breezy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 PM) :

Perfect combination: yellow dress and black skin. I like this shot

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:33 PM) :

She is looking happy.Yellow suits her fine, but somehow the top part of her dress is not in connection with the rest of the dress. Maybe if it had some of that volume there is below....

Blogger Decorno said ... (1:43 PM) :

What smile. It's even better than the dress.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

You know, she's gorgeous, but more and more I've come to realize that the best accessories are confidence and radiant health.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:08 PM) :

nice hem on that dress, that's my favorite part

Blogger Elizabeth said ... (3:07 PM) :

I love people in yellow. She's beautiful.

Blogger g+m said ... (3:48 PM) :

I know it's been said twice already, but that color is GORGEOUS on her. I wish I could pull off yellow that well.

And the white sandals and nailpolish are the perfect finish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:27 PM) :

beautiful, healthy smile!and I love the "I threw the first dress I found on but look amazing anyway" look

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:06 PM) :

She looks great in that dress, free and easy as a summer day. She seems like a happy girl.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 PM) :

She's very pretty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 PM) :

You should spend more time in Harlem!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:47 PM) :

I was just wondering when you were coming back to Harlem. I live here as opposed to any place else in New York. A wonderful slice of life: Sweet and Lowdown. Nice candid shot. THANK YOU for adding such diversity!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:20 PM) :

perhaps a belt to pull it together a bit? Love the color on her, and her smile.

Blogger Anthony said ... (7:42 PM) :

Further evidence that there IS beauty that lies within Harlem... She looks fantastic! Epitomy of summer in New York I'd say.

She's unquestionably beautiful, and that shade of yellow is stunning against her skin, but I see nothing in the outfit or presentation that tells me who she is, what her style is, point of view, etc... Those shoes are everywhere and the cut of the dress would be just as ubiquitous if not for the puzzling hemline. Sorry. I hope this isn't too harsh.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:43 PM) :

that yellow just puts me in the happiest mood ever. amazing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:20 AM) :

Beautiful! Both the girl and the dress colour.
She's also matching the nailpolish with her shoes. Like that little detail.

Hi,
I love yellow clothes, specially in summer, this woman looks like so beautiful... you should make more pictures from neigborhood in big cities, no?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 AM) :

It's so nice to see someone not of the fashion set back on this site! OG sartorialist

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:50 AM) :

Bold and energetic. Looking at her we feel real joy - and summer.

Blogger andrea michelle said ... (6:53 PM) :

I have that dress! Mine's navy blue, but she makes all colors (reversible too!). A great, young designer sells them from her sidewalk stand in SoHo...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 PM) :

Glamour. She's got the right shade of brown to pull off the yellow. I am a fair-skinned African American, and there's no way I could pull this one off.
Great shot, Mr. Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 PM) :

Good Day Sunshine!

I completely disagree with Michelle-- this is all about the young lady's point of view. Color says so much. This is about her and NOT what some magazine or website has to tell her.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:55 AM) :

scott, you must be a very pleasant guy. look at how nicely everyone you photograph smiles at you! :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 AM) :

Yellow this bright in NY is such a statement--to my mind, a wonderful one. POW!!! Such positive energy.

Blogger Kits said ... (8:09 AM) :

I love the combination of her skin and the dress.

Blogger momo said ... (3:33 PM) :

She shows that the best accessory is good posture!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:28 PM) :

She is a GODDESS! This is one of your BEST shots and most beautiful women!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:11 PM) :

wowwiww
being of dark skin
i think i need tofind myself something in that colourr!!
:)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:44 AM) :

Beautiful smile. Lovely physique. Like the hair style. The color of the dress is great. Like that her fingernails and toes appear to be the same color. However, I'm not wild about the style, shape, or cut of the dress. The sandals are o.k., but not with that dress.
