I can't take it. The whole world is turning into hippiedippydom

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 AM) :

Wow Sart, you have truly outdone yourself. Who is that girl in the second pic, you have taken her pic before, non?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

The last two looks are very nice - the one simple the other one more complex but both good-
Really liked the beige blouse-dress with the CC bracelets.

Blogger Lulu D. said ... (11:08 AM) :

I love the 4th pic down. Very Mod

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:09 AM) :

I love it all.

The girl in the sweaterdress pulled off a great androgynous look too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:11 AM) :

The pale blue jacket and the high water pants with men´s hat - I got so homesick for Paris it hurts! The rainy asphalt and all those smiles on skinny legs. I´ll be there again one day too! Thanks for widening the focus of fashion to include life and real people.

Blogger Cardigans and Couture said ... (11:14 AM) :

Love the green dress with the black. What a beautiful photo. I wish she had more feminine shoes, but that is just a personal preference. She looks fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

My, What long Legs Alt has. Of the thre her look is what I wish I could wear.

Blogger perfect bound said ... (11:25 AM) :

I can't get enough of that green dress either. The color is my latest obsession.

Blogger Kathleen Dames said ... (11:26 AM) :

Love the second and third looks - the insouciance of all that creamy white and sneakers in particular.

Blogger Meg said ... (11:28 AM) :

Ooooooh - I love the color of that green dress.

And I also love the hat the lady below her is wearing.

Blogger Lisa said ... (11:48 AM) :

Hey, there's the cute Asian pixie girl again! Look at that smile.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:48 AM) :

She has legs for days!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

Perfect. Every shot is spot on, just as Paris should be.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:59 AM) :

Strange, they all look like they're wearing ice skates.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

do we know Alt's heritage? I find the shemagh (palestinian scarf) a fascinating choice - and wonder if it is harkening to her heritage, to Balenciaga F 07, or to just her unrivaled choice for the day? it's been a hot topic of discussion amongst us in the office - inquiring minds want to know....

Blogger Elena Martinez said ... (12:09 PM) :

Uh Oh! Bring on the keffiyeh discussions! That's what this blog is about: what does fashion mean?

Blogger Sarah said ... (12:39 PM) :

I love the green velvet dress, as I have always had a weakness for rich, textured fabrics, but the simplicity of the girl in the 4th pic is very appealing. Glad she wore a small bag, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:53 PM) :

The Palestinian scarf look just says retro '80s to me. Every hipster, male and female, did the scarf/leather jacket combo back in the early 80s.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 PM) :

I love the dirty skirt on our favorite gamine! I bet she's tons of fun to hang out with.

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (1:43 PM) :

Naturally love them all, but particularly the last two. The simple shift is beautiful. In the last shot, the roomy yet tailored proportions work wonderfully. In the vein of Annie Hall!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:52 PM) :

Though that last outfit is fabulous, designer logos always read "fashion victim" to me.

Blogger david bram said ... (2:12 PM) :

Love the Contax 645 with speed grip.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:07 PM) :

love, love the green dress. also loving bracelets in the fourth photo, and the attitude in last photo is great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:53 PM) :

Can someone inform me how to wear a scarf like the girl does in the first picture? Really, ha. I can never do it properly I feel.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:53 PM) :

err, ms. photo #2 is amazing. that woman can work a wardrobe - you now have pictures of her with the same dress in two dif. ways and the same shoes in two dif. ways. who is she? i could read a blog on just her for days.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:27 PM) :

The last woman looks like a modern day Annie Hall

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (6:09 PM) :

Amazing! My favourites are the first and the last looks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:13 PM) :

Love the girl in the top pic. What she's done with the scarf, the boots and the extreme cut of the jeans is admirable, and brave.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:26 PM) :

I love the clean-cut quirkiness of the lady in the last photo!

Alt's look is nice, but it's all over the streets in London and now it's starting to come to L.A. Sadly by now it's beginning to feel a bit worn out.

Who is that fellow off to the side all in black and blue? He looks delicious.

haha, the second girl down has that typical Asian ability to look 15 and 40 years old at the same time.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 PM) :

In the fourth pic Chanel that guy must be extremely uncomfortable standing there with a broken ankle.

Blogger Anna-Lyssa said ... (9:23 PM) :

who *is* that man next to the chanel cuff girl?? he is the dreamiest dreamboat ever.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:02 PM) :

Now this is a collection.I´m not saying I fancy their outfits in particular but if I had to choose, girl 2 has a very personal way of dressing and it suits her well. Her origin is exotic and petite and somehow white also in the fake fur vest looks fun on her.She also has a nice smile. There is something cute in the outfit of girl 5,although I believe she´d look better by leaving something out.Now there is a bit too much of everything.I have noticed that black booties are very much ìn´this season.Alone in this collection three girls are wearing them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:32 AM) :

Hee, Hee. I entered the comments on this set of pics to see if anyone would mention the keffiyah. It's interesting that this has become a fashion statement. I wear one around because I like the look but also because I am a human rights activist, thus the plight of Palestinians is a concern of my work. :) It is interesting to note the reactions I get. On the train, sometimes I will register someone glaring at me.....other times I will notice someone smiling warmly at me. Either way, the keffiyah never fails to get a reaction.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:48 AM) :

oh, that jeremy scott bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:37 AM) :

To Anonymous 12:02PM, I think you're reading too much into Alt's choice of scarf. In Europe - UK especially - try-hard/genuine indie kids have been wearing them for at least a year solid; 99% of the time with leather jackets. They're everywhere, it's quite irritating. I'm surprised someone as trendless as Alt (who is so amazing usually) would pick up something so generic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:09 AM) :

The girl in black looks great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:14 AM) :

Great collection of shots!

But I find it disturbing when pretty skirts, or dresses or really long coats get dragged through puddles or mud.

Blogger Emma said ... (9:19 AM) :

I just love the hair color of the girl in the fourth pic. Stunning!

And the boy's cardigan looks interesting. Wonder what's the material?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 AM) :

That last pic is just awesome from the waistcoat to the knowing smile! I love it and wish I could recreate it without spending.... money...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 AM) :

what does it tell you about where fashion trends begin and where they end up in that the keffiyeh scarf Alt is wearing has been adorning the necks of every slightly cool, slightly hipster North London teenager for a good two years now.
and now finally Carine's right hand woman is wearing one.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:25 PM) :

The second to last picture is what caught my eye and made me stop. The two look quite mod, and I love it.

Blogger Sara Katt said ... (1:27 PM) :

the girl with the green dress looks fabulous, the combination of the dainty dress and those kind of heavy shoes is really nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:14 PM) :

The fourth lady was in the New York Times Style section- next to that same guy in front of the same car in that same outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:17 PM) :

The girl in the first picture is sleek, stylish, chic, edgy, attractive... And yet she lacks a vital element, THE vital element of good fashion- originality. And so she bores me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:16 PM) :

RE: Broken Ankle
--Are you kidding? What a lame comment.

Blogger pearlaceous said ... (6:35 PM) :

Lol It's true Anon 11:59, and all of their shoes have a reflection..
It's very interesting how the middle guy in the 4rth photo layered a striped black and white t-shirt, dark grey blouse, and a black dotted cardigan

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM) :

that photographer is truly fabulous! same with the christopher kane dress. he's such a good designer.

Blogger Lola A said ... (10:05 PM) :

i love these pictures. the thematic contrast is ... yes! amazing! masculine meets feminine. prim meets grunge. expectations with a shot of surprise.

fashion. where expression of creativity and art in one's appearance is demanded.

i love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:37 PM) :

who makes alt's jacket? i swear, it was love at frst sight...in the last picture of her circa september. who'd a thunk it would be so difficult to find the perfect leather jacket.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 AM) :

I think that the green dress is by Christopher Kane, no?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:13 AM) :

I loved your last photo of Mme Alt, but in this her pants look a little too tight and ill-fitting.

That green dress is so lovely. Love the boots on that girl, too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:03 AM) :

All very sweet, but the first two especially, the queen of tough urban chic and your lovely new muse, who seems to be flirting with a number of styles with remarkable ease. Cool ladies.

Blogger Landis said ... (7:21 AM) :

now see, I was at chanel in a gown and feather coat, and no one took MY picture.

rude.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:27 PM) :

i the two in the fourth picture featured in a nytimes slideshow on the shows. the photo wasn't as lovely, though :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 PM) :

Green velvet dress = Christopher Kane?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:48 PM) :

the 1st and 3rd pictures are great keep up the good work

Blogger MARIA H said ... (7:20 PM) :

First comment: hippiedippydom, haha!

This set is fueled with young edgy attitude. Each individual here is etremely bold and adventurous in their elegant choices, many elements that hold them as fashion misfits meaning they're surely trend setters.

Blogger fperese said ... (7:54 PM) :

your photos are SO much better than Bill Cunningham's!! esp the one of the woman in white sweater/gloves

Blogger Asi Mod said ... (9:59 PM) :

Amazing stuff from Chanel.

Blogger Vanessa said ... (1:26 AM) :

I absolutely LOOOVE the last one! Uggh. Can I have the money to have clothes like that?

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:47 AM) :

The young Coco with the red Dutch Boy haircut and the Gaoucho with the metallic bag are great.

Blogger FRESHLYSTEEZED said ... (1:59 AM) :

the girl in the first photo with the scarf, its becoming very popular what is it called and where is it from?

Blogger dnqcnn said ... (2:08 AM) :

female johnny depp female johnny depp!!
yeah what a great outfit i especially like those pants!
wooow

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:04 AM) :

i like the way the red-headed 20-something girl exudes Parisian chic hipness without resorting to the typical kitch overkill displayed by 20-something hipsters(maybe somebody knows what i mean by this)...
didn't that stud to the right of her used to model for GUESS? jeans?
that woman beside him looks like ellen von unwerth??
esp love their starry Chanel booklets.

Blogger Jo said ... (6:05 AM) :

That first girl is wearing pretty much the same style I rock daily- however, I sure don't have legs like those!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:57 AM) :

LOVE the top and the bottom pictures! the first girl.. man Iwish I had those legs!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:11 AM) :

I love the gamine girl with the sweater dress, but put the shemagh away, please, lady in the first photograph! (I remember them from the first time round, and didn't think it was a good look even then!)

Blogger JJ said ... (10:04 AM) :

I like your photo better than the one that appears of this same funky couple in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/10/19/fashion/20071021STREET_8.html

Blogger jamesylala said ... (11:12 PM) :

Sart, Will you ever reveal who she is??? We know she is a photographer and everytime you snap her, she draws a great deal of response...have a reveal!!!
I am thrilled to see her in her Converse again....She is a doll!!!
Enjoy China...if you run into my buddy Josh also in the same area as you, have him buy you a drink on me, You deserve it!!!
Cheers

Blogger franki durbin said ... (7:49 AM) :

oh these are priceless. it's not that I'd wear any outfit exactly as is ( I wouldn't) it's the confidence with which they hold themselves that sells it. Oh... and the occasional Chanel tote that manages to make casual look fabulous ;)

Blogger Rafe Totengco said ... (2:28 PM) :

you go Tracy...she's a really cool and down to earth person with amazing individual style. love the shrunken jacket and the Zoave pleated pants. not for everybody but she definitely gets away with it.

Blogger FeiraChic said ... (3:50 PM) :

All these looks are superb!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 AM) :

The girl in beige is lovely, and I love those platforms.

Edie Sedgwick modernized, very nicely done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:27 PM) :

last pic is tracy taylor...she always wears that jacket. loooveee the pants. updated annie hall. but she should lose the bag.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:42 AM) :

I was baffled by the sweater dress one, they pulled off the androgynous look so well! The first picture looks so rocker chic and the shemagh scarf finishes teh look off perfectly.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:20 AM) :

I think the girl with the Chanel cuffs looks great. Normally I find that quilted bags looks stuffy aqnd dated (at least I feel that way), but she makes it look cool. And, maybe I am wrong, but the guy with her looks a lot like Nicholas Ghesquire (spelling?) of Balenciaga??

Blogger WY said ... (12:45 PM) :

The photographer is soo cute, like a little puppy dog asking to take your picture after you've been denied entrace to rue du mail.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:38 PM) :

Wonderful shots. The first and last especially caught my attention. The woman in the first photo appears to have the longest legs in existence. The reflection of her black shoes in the puddle give the illusion of another foot of height!

Blogger Jessica said ... (12:38 AM) :

oh wow i love this so much all of it
i would love to be able to dress like they do

Blogger nidyawiguno said ... (6:03 AM) :

i love how the girl in the 5th pic dressed up. so cool!

Blogger mrcarminati said ... (2:45 PM) :

that top pic is great. almost like an optical illusion to make her legs look exaggeratedly elongated
