The rosary (at least that's what I think it is) does great things for this moment....

Blogger JO said ... (6:05 PM) :

Love the scarf's color with her hair.... She looks like a great charater to write about. I wonder where she has been or is heading.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:07 PM) :

Long-time viewer but first time I posted. Fabulous photo-love the scarf with the color of her against the dark background. Great show at the Danziger too.

Blogger Meg said ... (6:09 PM) :

Can this girl do any wrong? I've seen her 4 times and she looks completely gorgeous with a perfectly executed ensemble.

Blogger jst+crs said ... (6:14 PM) :

I think I'm in love! The hair and the scarf-- the heels and those legs... Absolutely smitten

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (6:16 PM) :

Gorgeous and sweet enough to get away with almost any attire (legs, stunning!)...what appears to be a Rosary is an interesting touch.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:20 PM) :

That is some picture...bewitching. My favorite part is how her rust-colored hair blends into the mustardy scarf...and the dark lipstick adds a touch of goth. Beautiful in such an eerie way...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:21 PM) :

OH MY GOD she is absolutely adorable. Love love love it.

You're going to hurt your knees that way honey!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:22 PM) :

Looks like this girl on French fashion blog Garance Dore...
http://www.garancedore.fr/2008/01/31/une-touche-de-couleur/

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

i louuuuuvre her scarf with the green trees in background ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:29 PM) :

i've noticed, reading the comments on various other images, that someone always mentions the fact that many of the subjects have that modelly pigeon-toed stance. What's the friggin? story with that? my theory is that it makes women look young, shy and vulnerable (just what you need to do to offest fact that you're carrying a $2000 bag) and that it makes the legs look thinner.
any other theories out there?
toes aside, this girl is ravishing. it's lois lane meets patti smith, sexy rock n roll librarian kind of thing. digging it!

Blogger Ross said ... (6:34 PM) :

The muted mustard yellow of the scarf is wonderful

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:35 PM) :

I will marry her

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:39 PM) :

Great photo again, of course :)
The girl looks nice, but I would wipe away the dark lipstick and rip off the rosary... Immediately ;))

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:43 PM) :

Everything about this picture and this outfit is great. The hair color/scarf combo is a knock out

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:45 PM) :

J'aime Louise!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:46 PM) :

LOVE !!!!

Blogger Darlene Sinclair said ... (6:53 PM) :

Here we are with that touch of marigold popping into play. Love it! Apart from the "bit too short" skirt and the hair which seems unthought of, she looks terrific. Love, love, love the shoes and glasses.
And what a great shot!

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (6:54 PM) :

Beautiful photo!
Long legs!
I love her jacket!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:10 PM) :

Great composition, and great hair.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:18 PM) :

I love her glasses and hair! I'm due to get new glasses soon, and overdue for a haircut; thanks for the inspiration!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:22 PM) :

where do all these girls buy those glasses??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:24 PM) :

I love everything about this outfit. The shrunken proportions make her legs look miles long. The tights make the outfit modest, while the short high-waisted skirt is totally young and modern. The yellow scarf is a great eye-catching piece and brings the highlights out from her hair. Well executed dress!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:28 PM) :

Lovely fairy-tale mansion and maze, the dark green and the auburn-red scarf-hair-lips... biker jacket very feminine. Wistful.
Only thing is these heels arent doing her posture any favours at all.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:29 PM) :

I dislike almost everything that she is wearing individually: the cross, the tights, the booties, the glasses, even the affected indiference...I'm over it. Yet, somehow, she is completely my new girl crush.

Blogger Kate said ... (7:29 PM) :

The scarf with that hair and lipstick is great.

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:32 PM) :

The mustard scarf compliments her hair and skin tone so lovely! And wow, great legs!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:42 PM) :

This is why I love Paris...sigh

RJT

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 PM) :

This is too cute. I love everything about it... BUT... I can't stand when people where rosary beads as necklaces! That's not what they're made for.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 PM) :

I sure hope the larger eyeglasses stay in style for sometime longer. Maybe they were never out and I hadn't noticed? I like them!

Great legs are so essential to every outfit. I wish I had legs that long!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 PM) :

I love this girl. I'm sorry but I'm almost 40 and she makes me want to rock this look, and all of her looks. OK, so I'll wear longer skirts. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 PM) :

i love the color combinations. from her hair to lipstick to scarf. it's wonderful!

Blogger Neon Legs said ... (7:56 PM) :

these are a few of my favorite things: sex-kittenish hair (love a good fringe!), chunky nerd glasses, and long-leggedy-legs. (note to self: start wearing lipstick, stat.)

Blogger karinee said ... (8:07 PM) :

her hair is gorgeous and i love the whole look. the who setting and everything is just amazing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:16 PM) :

YES...this girl is amazing...i know people may say that we've seen this a thousand times this season: sky high heels, wool tights, short skirt, cropped jacket...which is a valid point. but this girl owns it better than i've seen. maybe it's the scarf? i don't know what it is...but i love it all. especially that lip colour: i feel like i saw that in the pics from the lanvin show for fall 08? or another? it's beautiful...if i could be half as cool as her, i'd be a happy girl.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:29 PM) :

this picture is beautiful. It has a certain eerie quality about it- I think because of the gloomy lighting. The gorgeous castle-like mansion in the background makes this girl seem like a modern day cinderella.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:29 PM) :

I am not really a fan of those glasses on her, but I think the rest of her ensemble is absolutely marvelous. I adore her shoes and scarf.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 PM) :

Kirsten Dunst style hipster nylon girl?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:44 PM) :

It's a shame because she's clearly trying very hard, but the look as a whole is both worn out and aesthetically unappealing.
She's got lovely legs, though the pigeon toed stance is rather unfortunate.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:46 PM) :

i love mustard *sigh*

that scarf is wonderful, and i like her hair, it compliments the colours so well and adds romance to the black...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:47 PM) :

I love this shot - do you think it would be as interesting if her ankles weren't turned out just that little bit?

Blogger Arethusa said ... (8:52 PM) :

Is it just me or does she look familiar? Green dress and a cigarette outside some building last year?

Blogger reverend dick said ... (8:57 PM) :

Doooooood. Hands down my favorite picture. Sexy Madeline between the 2 straight lines, hair enmeshed with the scarf, the crucifix positioned just so...
It gives chills.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 PM) :

Beautiful. the warm splash of her hair and the scarf just glows against the grey-toned background. This is truly inspired.

I also love the comeback of the larger-framed glasses in many of your pictures lately. Nerdy with an edge! I'm going to have to hunt some down for myself.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:10 PM) :

Never seen a person pull off that quite dark of a shade of lipstick but she can pull it of so well. From the waist up its most striking.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:21 PM) :

my new favorite shot! fantastic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:23 PM) :

I really like how her hair seems to melt together with her scarf

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:23 PM) :

i absolutely love this. i love how its all black an white but then she has the yellow scarf. i also love the way she did her makeup. its all outstanding and goes together very well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:34 PM) :

she looks like a modern day Alice in Wonderland caught in the neverending hedge maze...neat :)

Blogger Frontier Psychiatrist said ... (9:40 PM) :

The skirt's great.

And I like her glasses.

Blogger www.rcwoolley.com said ... (9:47 PM) :

very interesting expression.

i like her scarf

Blogger David McDougall said ... (9:53 PM) :

everything is right. lovely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 PM) :

i love her look.
her legs look beautifully long as well..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 PM) :

Lovely!
Her shoes and legs as well as her hair flowing into her scarf work perfectly. mmmm

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 PM) :

This is perfect.

Blogger Zacharias said ... (10:15 PM) :

i think this is really great.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:15 PM) :

there's something about this photo that i love. i like how the scarf and the colour of her hair sort of mesh together.

and how i wish for such long legs as hers!

Blogger the Launderette said ... (10:21 PM) :

everything looks good with large framed glasses. not that this doesn't look good anyway.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:25 PM) :

this photo is beautiful. i love the colors, and her expression, almost macabre.
the outfit is unbeatable. great glasses - and that hair!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:45 PM) :

i really like how the yellow scarf just adds a bold touch of color to the dark outfit

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 PM) :

Good lord, do I ever love her style.

Blogger Penelope said ... (11:04 PM) :

The dark lip and 'golden rod' scarf are stellar, she looks beautiful!

Blogger Jessica said ... (11:07 PM) :

Love the overall thinking of this outfit with the jacket, scarf, glasses. Great hair too

Blogger adriana said ... (11:08 PM) :

why does she always manage to capture my attention? why? why? can someone please tell me.

Blogger The Design Bazaar said ... (11:28 PM) :

Wow. I am speechless.

Everything in this picture works incredibly well. I love it! You are an inspiration!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 PM) :

Oooo, la, la

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM) :

This looks like it's been done way too many times before...but I am in love with her lips. She kind of reminds me of Jessica Stam.

Blogger Scent Hive said ... (11:38 PM) :

I am so over this pigeon-toed stance. I am finding it an utter distraction at this point.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:46 PM) :

A++

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:53 PM) :

legs,legs,legs...lucky girl.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 AM) :

Poetic and sexy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:11 AM) :

Point in feet again :(

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:14 AM) :

Trendy much? Motorcycle jacket, thick glasses, dark lipstick, high heel oxfords, rosary and a pashmina? WOAH. I am so bored. Beautiful shot though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:15 AM) :

this is a beautiful shot. nice colours and use of perspective.
i particularly like how this young lady went to effort of dying her hair to match her scarf. it must take a long time for her to get ready each day!
I note a large proportion of girls in your shots, particularly in Europe are pigeon-toed, is this some some sort of slight genetic payback for being beautiful and born with an innate sense of style?

Blogger Madalene said ... (12:29 AM) :

You are helping develop a slightly unhealthy girl crush I hope you know Sart.

Blogger Will Anderson said ... (12:33 AM) :

I love how her hair is worked into the outfit with the scarf

Blogger Fashion Tidbits said ... (12:48 AM) :

they have grounds like that at the Louvre???!!! I am so moving there! o_o

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 AM) :

I simply adore this outfit. The unexpected burst of colour, the high cut skirt, even the cross and her glasses...she pulls it all off without looking 'trendy' or over the top. Just perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 AM) :

Oh wow, love it.
this is very much my style.
Wish i was brave enough to wear a plum lipstick like that though!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 AM) :

i adore this!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:18 AM) :

I have to say, her outfit is gorgeous and original, and her scarf goes with her hair!

BUT!

What on earth is the deal with the pigeon-toed stance that all these girls insist upon? It's very unattractive and becoming annoying.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:25 AM) :

This look is big in Chicago right now.

Blogger Bella07 said ... (1:53 AM) :

what is there not to love about this picture?
location, perfect girl, awesome pose... I love what she is doing with her legs.

Blogger Juliette said ... (2:10 AM) :

I love the muted colors of her hair, lipstick, and scarf - they blend perfectly! I am struggling to appreciate the high-waisted mini combined with that jacket, it makes her look a bit hunched over.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:23 AM) :

I'm in love...

Blogger s.212 said ... (2:23 AM) :

Sart, is it just me or has this week been one of your best weeks yet?! It started with the Viktor and Rolf runway photo and after that the good stuff just keeps coming! thank you :)!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:38 AM) :

i love everything about this!
the hair, the glasses, the scarf, the high waisted skirt, the leather jacket, the shoes, and the location is absolutely beautiful.

its all stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:48 AM) :

I live in Europe (Sweden, to be exact) and this is pretty much what every hipster girl looks like. From the haircut to the glasses to the opaque tights... boring, boring and more boring. Add that to the "I'm different from everyone else and take myself way too seriously" attitude, and it's all just one big 'yawn'.

Blogger quirky said ... (2:52 AM) :

The whole look is great. There's something quirky and gothic but it's sexy at the same time. She toned down the monotony with a yellow scarf and red hair! oh, I adore her necklace... isnt it a rosary?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:09 AM) :

I think her look compares with the surroundings.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 AM) :

HOT.

Blogger Diana said ... (3:22 AM) :

The old lady earlier was supernatural, this young girl in front of the foggy Louvre, almost horroristic (specially with the cross-medal, red hair and the dark lips).
Great shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:19 AM) :

this i like!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:59 AM) :

the 2 colors juxtaposed to different textures of black is pretty.
& of course it's a great shot
everything else is boring. she's good at being contrived. next.

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:08 AM) :

What a fabulous contrast with the celeb magazine staples of fake tan and blonde hair. There's more than one way to be sexy, alright.

Dear fellow commentators - enough with moaning about pigeon toes though, please? This is not a posture website, it's supposed to be about style, remember?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:45 AM) :

It´s disrespectful to wear a rosary like that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 AM) :

Coup de foudre

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 AM) :

where are the other pics of this girl? She is amazing!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:28 AM) :

She looks gorgeous. Everything about it.

On a side note, I love your dslr.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 AM) :

Good legs are always in style. I wish I was young again.

Blogger momo said ... (8:49 AM) :

Lovely woman, great outfit, lousy posture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:53 AM) :

I love her shoes but why is she crush-worthy?

Alhtough she is dressed in a hot way, she looks like a 16 year old girl, with a posture and confidence problem. I want to tell her to "snap out of it." And if she's over 20... well then.

Scott, come to Toronto when the weather gets a little warmer. Downtown where we look good.

Blogger spiegeleule said ... (8:54 AM) :

YES!
it's this gril again. want more.....faszinating!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (9:12 AM) :

There she is again! She's a blog star, always looks great.

Blogger winst said ... (9:32 AM) :

An absolutely stunning picture, though I must agree that the outfit itself is somewhat standard. However, the hair and the scarf make the "look," as they seem to meld into each other, creating a golden gradient against such a stark background.

Blogger Kara said ... (9:40 AM) :

I love it that after reading 95 comments, I can safely say there is no consensus.

This look is either "done" and "worn out" or it's "unique" and "brilliant." The diversity and strength of opinion is astounding over this one, moody shot.

That's what makes fashion fun ... it's personal. There's no right answer: it's a subjective field.

Thanks for giving us this fun in our days!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

I'm concerned about texture and how the fabric responds to light. These two elements always seem to be a breaker for the more grungier look.

Blogger odilean said ... (10:01 AM) :

she reminds me of the children's book character, eloise.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 AM) :

Excellent shot! I love the entire composition - the colors in the background, shrubbery, and the crispness of your subject. She looks great.
How do you achieve that effect, by the way? That everything but the subject is out of focus?
Just love that quality in all your photos!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:10 AM) :

Long legs... could it be that they are not THAT long but that the waist of the skirt is higher than most skirts out there? I just noticed there is a very short distance between the bottom of her breasts and the skirt waist. The fact that the skirt and the leggings are the same dark tone further elongates the legs. Just a thought for all girls out there that may want to try the look. As for the glasses, yes, I am very glad I kept my Ray-Bans from the 1980's... I was such a queer little boy :) Jorge from West Palm Beach

Blogger Tord said ... (10:19 AM) :

I think she looks like she feels awkward, like a little girl who just went through a growth spurt and no longer fits her clothes, unsure of how to deal with these newly-elongated limbs.

Blech.

Blogger marchingbandemporium said ... (10:19 AM) :

Wonderful picture. Love the air of bored, detached moodiness. And the sense of style, of course...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:33 AM) :

the hair color with that scarf plus lipstick oh ya those long legs and shoes; she is very cute and sexy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 AM) :

God, who cares if someone's toes are pointing in or their handbag is hanging off the crook of their arm? I pride myself on my posture but there are times I hunch over, walk pigeon-toed, am not photo-ready, etc. Get a life! The point is the inspiration of style, fashion, elegance and the details in these fabulous photos. And sometimes just the beauty of the photos themselves. And that is style, too. Sheesh!! This girl is beautiful; one could write a short story imagined around her. What an eye you have! I always look forward to logging on in the morning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:41 AM) :

I'm smitten. C'est moi qui l'aime. Et vive la France!

Blogger reverend dick said ... (12:00 PM) :

The pigeon toed stance is the new cigarette smoking...

The pigeon toes are sexy.

If people want to smoke that's their concern, not ours.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:13 PM) :

I'm going to have to agree with Anonymous at 2:48 - I don't know about other parts of the world, but this look isn't very innovative. She looks like every second skinny girl you see stalking around London's Brick Lane. Let's not confuse having beautiful, god-given attributes for individual/inventive style.

Blogger Monster Blond said ... (12:28 PM) :

...and she even has her toes pointed in!

Blogger bg said ... (1:53 PM) :

obsessed with black leggings much??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 PM) :

A young gothic colt with a mane.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:15 PM) :

Not to beat a dead horse, but I have to add my voice to the chorus:
the pigeon-toed stance is a disturbing turn off, in all that it implies : the self-consciousness, the little girl vulnerability. It just ruins this woman's look for me.

When it comes to style, how one stands --which conveys one's attitude--is a deal breaker.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:34 PM) :

perfection!...i adore the subtle contrast between her hair color and her scarf and i cant get over the combination of elegance and 'goth chic' ...stunning

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:39 PM) :

I like the fringe of the hair fringe and the hair bottom rhyming with the scarf fringe.

But there's no way to make an outfit look effortless with a stance so contrived (admittedly, the rosary looks a little over-trying too). It's like a preteen trying to look glamorous. This blog has ample proof that legs can look absolutely beautiful when placed in a stance that one actually puts one's feet in naturally, so if it is a convention that comes from a theory that it makes legs look better, it's a fallacious belief. I imagine this stance is just a trendy thing in certain circles, but it's such a poseur effect that I dearly hope it'll go away soon. Perhaps to be replaced by a truly sophisticated presentation, like bunny ears.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

i find this so dull, especially in comparison to the woman just below in lovely cream shades. . .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:06 PM) :

I love how her hair looks with the scarf and the colors in the picture are beautiful. I think her expression and posture ruin things though...she looks petulant and insecure.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:14 PM) :

very mysterious. i love the lighting.

Blogger Anne Corrons said ... (3:19 PM) :

Ah, le Louvre, c'est tellement beau! I like her look!

Blogger Mare said ... (3:19 PM) :

i think this outfit is hideous. i hate shorts w. tights in the winter. her hair is a stringy mess and she is in need of a dye job. the glasses are ugly.
her white shirt is too low-cut for this outfit.
the only thing i like about this photo is the background.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:32 PM) :

I haven't commented in a while. The contrasts in this girl just drive me completely over the edge. What a work of art she is!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:41 PM) :

Glorious. The setting, the colours, the attitude, just wonderful.

Blogger T IN LA said ... (4:56 PM) :

Such a dreamy jungle. Her edgy style and elegant repose is perfection.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 PM) :

People said it above and I say it again. That pigeon toe thing stands out like a sore thumb. That's a constant feature in many of shots here, mostly of young girls. This is not a runway photo shoot, is it?!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:11 PM) :

I think she's the same woman that was photographed wearing knee socks with heels and her beautiful hair flying.
She's a charmer but have never seen her smile in any photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 PM) :

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN About The PIGEON TOES

A question of balance...
When wearing high hills is hard to stand with feet parallel for long spetially when standing still because you feel going forward and sometimes backwards. The pigeon toe situates the body over a triangle that support the body in a much comfortable and balanced way, that is why children use it too!

Notice you will NEVER find pigeon toes among the flat shoe costumers.
If you have any doubts jump immediately on to a pair of hills + platform and stay on them for a couple of ours, I guarantee you will pigeon soon.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:31 PM) :

This girl is a dream, the photo amongst your very best images!

Blogger Karmander said ... (5:40 PM) :

I think perhaps people are focusing too much on what she's wearing or how she's wearing it and not enough on the way her hair rests on that scarf. This was luck...It's not an inovative outfit, but the color reserved for around her head is really breathtaking. It's a beautiful blended wash of color framing her face. And shoot, nevermind the girl, that photograph! The way the walk blends from green to toupe, the magnificent mansion in the background, that greyish white sky...One of my favorites, definitely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:41 PM) :

That is such a cute outfit! :)

Blogger londondog said ... (6:37 PM) :

I love this girl - I think you had her on before in an outfit with grey socks. She is a style - both in her slinky style and her fabulous Titian locks. So French looking as well - slender, chic and naturally glamorous. Fab Fab Fab!

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:17 PM) :

Annon 5:29, I stand in heels all the time and I don't end up pigeon toed. And I have seen pigeon toed poses in flats. I believe it is the way it positions your hips, it pulls your thighs appart and makes your legs appear thinner because heaven forbid your thighs should touch when you are on the Sartorialist.
Even if it were an issue of balance, one could easily step out of it to pose for the picture. It is obviously a contrived position. Otherwise we would see an equal number of poses with feet turned out, which is also a triangle.

now about the outfit. I love the way a highwaist, short skirt can make legs look miles long (because in contradiction with most other here, I don't think her legs are ridiculously long). I makes me think it is a look I could use to lengthen my 5'2" frame.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:31 PM) :

Her hair color is absolutely amazing. Its the one color besides the scarf that really pulls the look together.

Blogger daniellagirl said ... (9:50 PM) :

I really don't understand the reaction this girl is getting. I will attribute it all to the fact that she looks very trendy and therefore accessible - appeals to a very general audience! The girl in the shot and every one of her photos before, always looks ordinary. Her face especially - there is nothing remotely intriguing about it. I feel like I have seen this look/girl a million times, in a city as small as San Francisco no less. I don't care where the photo was taken, nothing can enhance this impish character.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:19 PM) :

The photo as a piece works well. I was struck equally by the girl's look as the landscape behind her. I agree that the hair and scarf together works quite nicely.

the lighting is perfection.....I really love this, something about the perspective of the trimmed hedge

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:21 PM) :

She reminds me of a rock-n-roll version of Alice in Wonderland. Love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 PM) :

It's the hair and the scarf--no question.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:06 AM) :

This is a very beautiful photo. And the fact that this woman has her toes pointed in does not take away from that....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:07 AM) :

those are definitely the rayban wayfarers in eyeglass form! My boyfriend was thinking about getting some..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 AM) :

Does this girl have a blog or anything?
I would just love to see more of her style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:24 AM) :

Yes, for me this is about the photograph and about the hair on the scarf. The outfit itself is tired and not particularly well thought out in any case.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:07 AM) :

how interesting! the image has a fairytale quality to it. she looks like a semi-innocent girl who spends lots of time in the library but lands in a forest with a castle in the background. and she is chic!

I love her look!! hight wasted mini skirt, very good choice.

those glasses with the hair... stunning

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:00 PM) :

the picture itself is nice, but, i am so bored of the pigeon toed "awkward/shy" girl (or boy) look.

the pieces she is wearing are are great, particularly the rosary, and the shoes...

but all together...it is lacking something.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:46 PM) :

Everything is perfect except the glasses. I hate those kind of glasses and they make anyone look as though they're trying extra hard to be a hipster.

Blogger sandy said ... (8:33 PM) :

This is such a poignant picture as she reminds me of a leggier version of the late Adrienne Shelley...

On an unrelated note, could you please give me some advice re: the Canon 5D. I was wondering if you purchased the extended warranty with the camera and if so, do you think it was worth the extra money?

Thanks, Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:52 PM) :

Wow. Great shot. Love the way her red hair contast so nicely with the background. Your site has now become a daily ritual in my day. A litle releif from the day to day business of life. Thanks, Sart

Blogger ginjin3 said ... (2:45 AM) :

this is a wonderful photo overall. however, i think the neutral color of the building and the green from the plants really does wonders to contrast her colors and make her look even more amazing.

try cropping out the background, put her on white and see the difference. this is the work of a great composer. wonderful photography scott.

i've viewed the evolution of your photography in this blog a few times and it's always the same great experience. thanks! :D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:42 PM) :

she looks great! nice shot

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 PM) :

she definatley has character, which is what fashion should be all about. The rosary really makes you think about her as an individual.

Blogger je suis mode said ... (8:11 PM) :

This is amazing. I love the entire look -- it's so artsy!

Blogger missnonhuman said ... (10:13 PM) :

I feel that she looks effortless and beautiful, and there are certain remarks that just stem from envy, which is somewhat understandable given the grace this girl has.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:28 PM) :

I love the juxtaposition of the very modern, very 'now' hipster look with the old-world, classic architecture in the background. Great shot.

Blogger Charlene said ... (2:34 AM) :

i beg to differ with the majority here, unfortunately. at first look, the picture drew me to enlarge it. but after deciphering it, i have to say that there really is nothing very interesting goin on..the highwaisted skirt, raybans, oxfords, scarf, motorcycle jacket and leggings- these are whats "hot" now and putting them tgthr doesnt deem you a stylish person.furthermore, her skin tone with her hair colour and scarf just makes her look sullen and drab..not impressive at all

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 PM) :

Hooray to Anonymous 5:29's analysis. Though ... it does it not seem that Japanese women commonly toe-in even in flats? Actually, my family is of Siberian descent, with wide, square hips and a low waist, and we ALL stand this way, even the men (think OJ Simpson), so do you think that one's build/proportions might influence the aiming of toes? It is a true effort to stand with my feet out, and believe me, I have tried.

And while it is being called childlike, I think "feminine" is more to the point, that is, lacking in the testosterone that makes me naturally attempt to take up physical space. I mean, besides squaring up one's shoulders, is this not one way a "drag king" can successfully impersonate a man? Toes out pushes the "bits" out into the world.

But I agree too that positioning the feet this way does give the most space between one's thighs. BUT - if ever one is modeling jeans' pockets, remember that it's the opposite; toeing in will turn your fanny into a figure 8. [try it, you'll see] see!

Not an outfit we could call original, but she with that hair and body it takes little to make her spectacular. If she smiled ever, she'd be just too, TOO beautiful, and then I'd really have to hate her ; )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:48 PM) :

I agree with the above comment. I feel like if you go for such an obvious hipster accessory, you are begging to be labeled.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:07 PM) :

Hm.

I think that between her chin and waist it IS a fantastic outfit, and it IS original. However, the bangs and glasses are definitely tired. I think it would have looked better middle parted with no bangs (and possibly a little bit flatter/lanker- but that's probably not her hair's texture so there's nothing to be done).

It is true that she is using typical hipster clothing, but the combination of the rosary, the lipstick, and the lowness of the shirt makes it a little bit more dark, rock n roll, or whatever.

That said- her skirt is annoying me intensely. It looks great, okay, but it also looks crazily uncomfortable. It looks as if it would dig into your waist when you sat down and you'd have to worry about bending over. Maybe it's just me, but when you see a component of an outfit that just looks difficult and high-maintenance like that, it stops me from enjoying the whole thing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:17 PM) :

she rocks the nerdy look with the glasses better than any real nerd i've seen. give the girl a standing ovation, please

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:19 AM) :

she's one of the most lovely things i've seen for ages.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:52 AM) :

ok yes, she's wearing a typical hipster uniform. but god does she look hot in it. i'd go straight for her any day!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:24 PM) :

Seen her before, but this pic. just doesn´t click.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:43 PM) :

I agree with the other people from hipster-populated areas... I am very tired of this obviously trying-too-hard-to-look-like-I-don't-care look. It's too 'cooler than thou' to be accessible or appealing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:38 PM) :

killer image!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:16 PM) :

The pigeon toed stance was something I first noticed in pics of Japanese street fashion in 2001. It's definitely a trend among alt fashion and seems to have finally hit the mainstream.

I do think this girl is really cute with her dark lipstick.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:36 PM) :

There is no question that this girl is striking. However, I was disappointed to notice that rosary upon expanding the image. As a Catholic, I would never think twice about wearing a rosary around my neck. Although, I understand that for someone who does not share my beliefs they are simply wearing a necklace. I still vey much enjoy this photograph, its just hard for me not to notice.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:16 PM) :

She definitely looks to Mary Kate Olsen for ideas but I guess she looks cute. Where is she standing though? That is what is beautiful to me!!!

what a great picture!!! i like her style, those glasses are marvellous

Blogger l'amour de mode said ... (1:11 PM) :

this is an amazing photo, I love the contrast of her hair and the scarf to the dark colors in the bushes and her tights. lovelovelove !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 PM) :

Uh.
Ok, the picture is great, the girl looks nice (perhaps too nice) but really there's something sooo boring about her outfit.
Like some of you said, it's so "cooler than thou", so NOT natural, so "hot pieces put together"... And it's emphasized by the pigeon-toe position: she's a poseur.
I mean, what I like with Scott's blog is that he photographs elegant people, not people-trying-to-look-original.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 AM) :

it's a really nice photo in terms of colour, background, etc. but her style is typical shoreditch-hipster!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:23 PM) :

this is by far mesmerizing.

i do not like her outfit and hair. but the atmosphere of the pic is great

I wish this girl had a web site. (Well, I guess she does now, sort of.) She is really beautiful.

Blogger M xo said ... (3:18 AM) :

lovely! feel as if I should get myself a pair of black geeky glasses 8)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:43 AM) :

Is this the same girl in post "Thursday, June 28, 2007?"

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:05 PM) :

Is everyone sure that it is a skirt she is wearing? Looks like it could be a little pinafore style dress (look inside the jacket at the left hand side, is that a strap going up?)

She seems comfortable in her style and I believe that comes across. Ok, some people may not agree that she looks great, but I do!!

I would marry her in a shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:27 PM) :

She works everything she wears. So much personality! The scarf + hair are just genious. Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:24 PM) :

she has a blog called Pandora

Blogger Lord Messer said ... (5:27 PM) :

Those legs...increible!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:01 PM) :

okay, so everyone thinks this look is done and that she's a poser and blah blah blah, but to be honest that's kind of what makes this outfit.

the fact that she knows that skirt elongates her legs; the contrast between the scarf and the lipstick versus the way her scarf works with her hair; the fit of the jacket. that's what's important.

and yes, she does have her toes pointed in, and she looks a little hunched. but everything about her posture in this picture suggests that she just feels uncomfortable, not that she's self-obsessed.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:58 PM) :

the outfit and glasses are so cute. its a very quant photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:19 PM) :

what's her full name?
louise who?

Anonymous Elle J said ... (3:59 AM) :

This is one of my favourites. I love the way everything she is wearing complements her features. And the background is spectacular too. Adore the oxfords.
