Blogger Unknown said ... (8:46 AM) :

What a pose! Strikes me as French girl chic here - not much makeup but looking fab. And I like the shorts - denim coloured fabric but much lighterweight (down with denim hot pants - so stupid for summer - are you listening Kate Moss???)

Blogger ginjin3 said ... (8:54 AM) :

beautiful lighting. very dreamy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:55 AM) :

Love the hair! Looks so casual!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:58 AM) :

Adorable, and a fresh summery interpretation of the masculine-inspired looks we've been seeing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 AM) :

that's a great blouse.

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:16 AM) :

I love how she is so boyishly cute! This look works so well for her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:18 AM) :

Very MJ!

Blogger kellig said ... (9:33 AM) :

That is just pure summer comfort. Even though these are more masculine pieces, the shapes and the details keep it cool and feminine. I love it!

Blogger Alice Olive said ... (9:33 AM) :

Wow - what a face! Love the sunlight. Great photo.

Blogger amy said ... (9:49 AM) :

1st : simple. perfect. hair beautiful. low or no makeup makes it not look country club. way to go.

2nd: nice to see the gold gladiators. dress too tight but love the black in jacket w/ navy dress and pink scarf. gold shoes instead of black or blue or brown make it. gold in aviators pulls it all together.

Blogger Miri said ... (9:50 AM) :

i so love this outfit....

that polo just amazes me....

sart! im in love with this pic!!!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (10:06 AM) :

Love the colors and the simplicity of her look.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:06 AM) :

You've got to be kidding! Does this person actually live on earth? Or is she a grownup from an old-timey children's book about the beach? BEAUTIFUL!!

Blogger marie said ... (10:14 AM) :

i love her hair! so cute, so simple yet with lot's of style and personality! now why can't i achieve something like this?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

i love love LOVE the morning shots you get of people. this one, and another recent one of a girl with the yellow scarf & red jacket, is so clean and fresh yet so seductive. like you just rolled out of bed with them.

lovely!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:55 AM) :

Oh I like it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

That is a stunning photo. The combination of the stripes and angle of the pose, the lighting and the beautiful face and hair. Wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:21 AM) :

I love how this rugby has been transformed - pointed placket and shirt cuffs, worn with shorts. Great color combos. She looks great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

I'm in love with him/her!!!!

Those shorts are perfect with that top. The hair is so casually sophisticated. I'm hearing Carson McCullers reading me The Heart is a Lonely Hunter when I look at her. Lovely. Bring us more androgyny!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:01 PM) :

she has a radiant beauty and it is beautiful shot with the reverse light. yet the shirt is not flattering at all. too boxy.

Blogger Amber said ... (12:02 PM) :

absolutely beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:02 PM) :

what a beautiful creature,

Amazing hairstyle and great look!

Blogger Sheila said ... (12:46 PM) :

Not sure about the outfit... but just goes to show that gorgeous young people can make any piece of clothing look like a special choice.

Blogger aynymd said ... (12:56 PM) :

I love this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:01 PM) :

I want that top-it looks so comfortable! The lighting is gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 PM) :

this is adorable. i especially love the lightweight versions of typically heavy knit and denim fabrics.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:22 PM) :

Oh My God. I am a heterosexual female but I am in love with her! She is so incredibly hot and sexy and oozing internal strength, intelligence and sense of humor.

Blogger wilsonreps said ... (1:50 PM) :

this is nyc??? wowzers!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:06 PM) :

Sorry Sart but even on a beautiful girl in a great and skilfully constructed photo do horizontal stirpes on a rugby shirt look even remotely stylish. Nice shorts though.

Blogger Piztachio said ... (3:25 PM) :

Wonderful

Blogger liz song mandell said ... (3:46 PM) :

definitely diggin those shorts.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:52 PM) :

The outfit completely compliments her boyish beauty. The colors, the shapes, the face, the hair! I'll have to dream up something for her feet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:27 PM) :

Yes she's beautiful and would look great in anything... but this sporty-preppy look leaves me stone cold, always has. Sorry!

Blogger Nadine said ... (4:28 PM) :

Never mind the clothes, what a beautiful FACE! To me she looks part-Polynesian; she has my son's colouring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:52 PM) :

I simply adore the cuffs and stripes of the shirt and the material of the shorts. And that hair!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 PM) :

I love this picture, it looks so laid back and casual.

Reminds me of a Ralph Lauren advert or some cool new sportswear company.

I really like the detail on the sleeves of the shirt and also the collar, it makes what would be an every day polo shirt really unique :)

This is simply perfect summer wear!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

This reminds me of the day my 50ish y.o. girlfriend showed up for a bike ride wearing a stripped hand-me-down t-shirt from her teen son. Genius.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:02 PM) :

Beautiful. From the model, to the composition of the shot, to the outfit. Absolutely beautiful

Blogger STREET STYLEZ NYC said ... (6:09 PM) :

i want HER to be my boyfriend.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:20 PM) :

Not sure what's so spectacular about this look...I much prefer the tough-looking painter you featured last week.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 PM) :

Just wow.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:26 PM) :

tomboy and fresh!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:01 AM) :

W 23 is the place to be !!

Blogger leather girl said ... (9:24 AM) :

if i hadn't been inspired by an earlier photo to chop my hair, this one would've done it. had you not written W23rd, i would've been convinced this photo was taken in a beach town.. miami, mexico or even france.

Blogger Trapiello said ... (9:39 AM) :

I love the shirt,it is amazing!!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:17 AM) :

color are beautiful

Blogger Natalie said ... (2:29 PM) :

I cannot say that I like the outfit, but the photo composition, the light and the attractive model made it look great ;o)

Blogger Seanrwatson2 said ... (3:12 PM) :

This look is great. I'd call it minimalistic, and very accentuating of her skin tone. There's a comfortable and relaxed feel to the outfit that is helped by the luminescence.

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (5:58 PM) :

she looks wonderfully relaxed.
i feel like i've seen her before ... she has a very recognizable face.

bri might be right ... mollie sue from top model ... ?

Blogger aviewaskew said ... (7:41 PM) :

charisma...those eyes...not my clothing style but she works the look

Blogger Berkley Magazine said ... (8:05 PM) :

Very TomBoy-ish, but I like it. Her look goes well with the miniature shorts paired with the slightly baggy rugby shirt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:07 AM) :

Maggie Gyllenhaal? She looks very similar.

Blogger Gratistotal said ... (5:09 AM) :

Great look in french style! Classic and cute!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:56 AM) :

One of the best Sartorialist looks for awhile. Perhaps ever.

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (8:06 AM) :

Beautiful!

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:26 PM) :

Sporty confidence. The details at the wrist are a nice touch and I am glad to see that shorts are making a comeback. They are so practical and chic.

Blogger Lexie said ... (5:52 PM) :

there's a difference between photographing street style and a pretty girl.

there is nothing spectacular about this outfit, she's just pretty.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:55 PM) :

She is amazing and the photo is perfect. Reminds me of that cool French girl in Stereolab.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:20 PM) :

I love how the sheerness of the top takes a boyish look and makes it incredibly feminine. Beautiful!

Blogger Marie Louise said ... (7:45 PM) :

Just discovering your blog. Used to work in the fashion industry in NYC, Milan, Paris & London myself. Read your bio and totally concur with all that you're saying. I had a place in the city for years but am not living "in the country" of Connecticut. Love being able to check out your blog and get a metropolitan "hit"! Thanks!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:52 PM) :

Third comment in four years... LOL

I am not really sensing inspiration -- the look is basic, mannequin-friendly, and easy to achieve. The crisp colours the designer choose for the rugby/tee saves it from being a numbingly bland ensemble -- it looks like a harbinger to spring which seems lacking or at the very least hidden this year... The young woman is blindingly sultry, sweet and sexy all at once -- it is more about the woman than the clothes.

D.

Blogger Angie hearts said ... (8:07 PM) :

nice and easy

Blogger a reference said ... (11:45 PM) :

So cute. I was thinking of picking up a Rugby shirt from....Rugby Ralph Lauren, but I couldn't imagine how to style it. Thx!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:40 AM) :

To be honest I don't quite understand everyones comments (so please feel free to explain!)

From what has been said, the woman below is bland, simple and generic. I think/thought she looks fab, and comfortable - wearing an outfit that can change from street to office.. (just slip off the scarf, and add a pair of heels as one person suggested).
YET - this girl seems to be wearing something that I would pull on to go the SUPERMARKET! A big/baggy rugby jumper, shorts, no make-up and (as far as I can tell) no make-up. Hardly anything mind-blowing!

Many comments seem to be true, that it is the girl that makes the outfit, not the clothes.

Or am I missing the point?
I'd be interested in hearing anyones opinion.

Blogger NATRIBU said ... (6:00 AM) :

Fantastica!

Blogger Elouise said ... (7:15 AM) :

very pretty.. like a model...

Blogger Bel said ... (10:04 AM) :

Oooooooh...stripes AND yellow...I LOVE!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:16 PM) :

Something androgynous yet sexy about her look

Blogger Alex said ... (2:07 PM) :

A well executed simple style here. Glad to see at least some people know how to pull simple together.

Blogger Jana FitzGerald said ... (3:04 PM) :

this is really nice. the proportions on the shirt are great, i love that the sleeves end just before the wrist. it is not cut too tight, which makes shorts are the perfect match for this top.

and the stipes! just lovely. she is quite beautiful and im glad to see it appears that she is barely wearing makeup? also her hair is just great, maybe a bit more wispy on the bangs or so, but she has really nailed this look. it IS possible to dress in masculine clothing while maintaining a strictly feminine appeal!

Blogger edith said ... (5:50 PM) :

what a summer photo...classic americana turned stylish by the wearer's attitude...makes me miss summer in nyc..

Blogger TakeitEZE said ... (7:20 PM) :

This is so fresh!! I love it.

Blogger ali said ... (8:52 PM) :

sart where have you gone?
I need my daily fix of fashion!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 PM) :

Love it! That shirt is great: youthful, fun, comfortable and boy-ish enough (so she still looks cute and like a girl).

Blogger Clare said ... (11:50 PM) :

This outfit strikes me as one that wouldn't flatter many people, but on this girl it really works. The whimsically wide stripes and playful androgyny work in an adorable companionship with her beautiful face and boyish haircut.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:34 AM) :

Up to date Preppy !!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:50 AM) :

What a beautiful photo! What makes this phto is the pose and that "just got out of bed after a good shag look". And the clothes then only add to compliment that initial conception. If she was wearing something more serious/structured,it wouldn't work. Perfect.

Energie

Blogger Claudia Holtz said ... (4:17 AM) :

One word: amazing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:23 AM) :

I love the nod to the nautical theme, also love the wide placket, it freshens up the basic rugby

Blogger Emma said ... (4:24 PM) :

one of the best looks I've seen on here in ages!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:47 PM) :

Me thinks your devoted followers are clutching at straws. Quit throwing the odd bone and serve up a feast..pleeeease.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:58 PM) :

Isn't this the same girl who wore the much-debated grey Marc Jacobs dress and leather jacket earlier this year? Obviously she's got a favourite designer.

Love the cuffs and feminine detail on the shirt. Wish we could see the shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:32 PM) :

The picture is great and the look is airy.

The clothes are just not that interesting, sadly. I don't see why people are so impressed.

Blogger Celia said ... (2:01 AM) :

This is a look that, passing down the street, I wouldn't take a second look at. But thanks for making us take this second look, because it's amazing. At first glance I thought she was wearing her boyfriend's shirt, but oh my god it is the most perfect shirt ever! The buttons, the oversized placket, the perfectly lined-up stripes! And the chambray shorts! I am drooling.

Blogger DATALOG said ... (11:35 AM) :

her hair is fantastic

Blogger Mervis said ... (10:59 AM) :

i can't decide if i'm more in love with the woman or the framing. the backlighting is glorious. the pose. the tussled hair. the color of the whole shot -- her skin, the blurred trees, the yellow/navy/white -- the clothes are uninspiring to me. but the photo is true magic. thanks sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 PM) :

5 words and an expression
marc by marc jacobs polo :)

Blogger junglesiren said ... (3:38 AM) :

Can't say I love the outfit per se but what I do love is when someone full-on ROCKS something that I'm not normally into, and this girl rocks it hard.

It's so cool when something doesn't normally work on the rest of the world but looks just right on the right person. She is definitely the right person.

A breath of fresh air. So uncomplicated and sophisticated and chic and delightful.

Blogger Baking With Plath said ... (2:08 PM) :

She pulls off the casual look so well. It's one of those outfits where it looks like they didn't even try but it fell together perfectly....effortless. I like it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:30 PM) :

very inspiring post, I've decided to do the same.

Blogger Emily Colette Wilkinson said ... (10:19 PM) :

I loved this top--and then I saw it on the frumpy Saks model online and knew, sigh, that clothes do not make the girl: the girl makes the clothes.

a delightful pic. She's kinda Elodie Boucher--who's also an MJ fan, I believe.

Blogger Kortholdere said ... (7:57 AM) :

She makes me think of the girl Bret in The Sun Also Rises..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 AM) :

cute lady

Blogger Lissa Lou said ... (9:42 PM) :

I have always stolen my brothers shirts to wear (spiking up the comfort) And love menswear on women.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:13 PM) :

I adore the simplicity of her attire, the hair and the angle at which the sun is hitting her.

The shapes works wonderfully. It looks like a well-put, comfortable outfit. And that's not the easies pairing.

Bravo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 PM) :

the outfit is nothing special whatsoever...it is the girl that makes this picture.

Blogger drew said ... (12:54 PM) :

marry me

Blogger Hannah said ... (10:31 PM) :

I need these shorts! Who is the designer?

Blogger margaux said ... (10:49 AM) :

so much better than the generic clothes in the previous post. she has wonderful style.
