I think the 2 things that work with these outfits are the cropped outerwear and a horizontal break just below their natural waists. Their cropped jackets look nice and they are probably a good response to their climate, when you need something a bit warmer outside, but need to stay cool when you go inside. The horizontal break is accentuated by their layered clothing; I think this works for tall, slim bodies, and the rest of us should abstain. I wonder if these 2 women consult one another before they leave the house? Jorge from W Palm Beach

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:59 AM) :

They look like they could be a set of dolls.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:03 AM) :

i don't understand this: are they all taught not to smile? the environment looks beautiful but the beautiful faces look so gloom and doom. anyhow, like the relaxed style of the woman on the right.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:24 AM) :

I really like this shot.

They seem have a similar sence of fashion, but still has originality.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 AM) :

Beautiful. They're twins, yes? I love the layers, and how they look they are variations on the same theme, as you've been putting it Sart. I also love the headgear and the extra long sleeves on the woman on the right. I favor her outfit. The woman on the left is almost a more masculine counterpoint.

It looks like the pixie is all the rage in Stockholm...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:25 AM) :

They must be sisters!

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (8:36 AM) :

Sweet looks. I especially like the puce jacket-hoodie-scarf combo on the right. I suppose layering being a necessity in this climate it has acquired it's own highly developed aesthetic over time. Climate must affect styles of dress everywhere but seeing this series of posts has made that more apparent to me.

Blogger Missy's Got Fighting Blood said ... (8:43 AM) :

They look like sisters?

I thought it was a boy and a girl. But I like both styles, but the girl on the right made me envious. Something about her coat and the sleeves. I'm envious of both though because they get to wear Autumn clothes. Hurry up Autumn and get here, although in Connecticut it is starting to feel quite chilly.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:43 AM) :

Okay, I am sorry. The catorialist (http://thecatorialist.com ) did a much better take on twins ... in white.

Blogger Ann (MobayDP) said ... (8:46 AM) :

I agree. They look like sisters.

I love that brown jacket. Can't believe it's starting to get cold already. Where did the summer go??

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 AM) :

they look just right. perfect proportions. not too trendy, either. love their looks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:02 AM) :

Their EP was all i listened to last summer in Paris! What a surprise to wake up today and see them here. From similarly chilly climes, I lust after these layers. And that haircut! Stockholm is indeed rocking that pixie cut.

Thanks for the gorgeous (comme d'habitude) photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:37 AM) :

This is marvelous and a little creepy.
It is perfection.

Blogger Maven said ... (9:39 AM) :

Identical twins who have managed to be very "groovy" but still find an individual and seperate identity via their clothes- the twin on the left of the screen looks very early student child, (perhaps pre-law?) and the twin on the right achieves the same edgy look, but is WAY more schoolofparsonesque- she's "finished".
You might want to submit this photo to somebody who is doing some twin studies. Once again, thanks. Very cool photo-

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:56 AM) :

They look like they are straight out of a Stephen King novel, and the clothes are very blah. Cant fault the photograph though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:01 AM) :

Wow. this photo has a Diane Arbus feel to it and not because they may be twins; to me you've managed to objectify each girl while drawing on their similarities. I love the black jacket. All these Stockholmers seem to be an incredibly hip, cool and modern bunch, it's daunting!

Blogger Luciernaka said ... (10:19 AM) :

hmmm. sort of a shinning moment for you sart.

i like her headdress and the other's glimmer of sky color peeking out from the darkness. it is hard for me to tell on my screen, but I'm guessing the different textures of their clothes make their choices interesting too.

but smiles?

too much work and no play...?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:23 AM) :

Clothes aside, this is simply a gorgeous shot. The color is simply stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:26 AM) :

no colors at all in stockholm (except for that dark plum below), glad i don't live there in the cold, the cold might also explain the lack of smiles, i'm thinking. but the clothes are amazingly shaped and the people don't pose for the camera, which adds to the appeal of these shots. these are regular people in their everyday clothes and so there is no pretense, and a lot of good taste.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:14 AM) :

This is a gorgeous shot. Really, this has got to be one of my favourites.

Blogger S (formerly of Modern-Guilt) said ... (11:20 AM) :

These Stockholm pictures as of late are some of my favourites ever. Totally stunning.

Blogger brando said ... (11:22 AM) :

Well it's nice to know that the twins from The Shining grew up to be beautiful young women. "Come play with us, Scott."

Blogger Diana said ... (11:27 AM) :

To Aretha: But the Catorialist twins have the same killer look in the eyes :-)

My first thought was when I saw the girls, they would be ideal character of a Steffen King thriller. Beautiful brutally blank faces.

I like their effortless style, Jorge has right, it fits their tall slim figure.

Blogger The Domina said ... (11:43 AM) :

Very Diane Arbus, though with better clothes.

Blogger Sann said ... (11:51 AM) :

To be honest, the style these Swedes are rocking is not my style and I don't really feel it.

However, one can tell that they are totally stylish and conscious about what they wear and I respect that. It is fascinating to see how people around the world dress themselves and how it differs per region (italy vs. sweden).

Fashion is anthropology!

Blogger Pam said ... (12:25 PM) :

I love this shot. Thanks Sart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 PM) :

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (12:57 PM) :

Love the photo, not necessarily the clothes. The color of the grass is so vivid...it must be an overcast day.

Their look screams Swedish musician! And their music is lovely.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:00 PM) :

they are twins, and they make beautiful soulfull music under the name taxi taxi. i saw them live at a festival, and they had very few instruments but their voices made it so intense. and they were really sweet too.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:03 PM) :

Kind of reminiscent to Diane Arbus' shot of the "Twins!" Updated and modern, of course. Shout out to James Danziger for the photog reference. =)

Blogger saintvenus said ... (1:20 PM) :

I think they are sisters, and they got excellent fashion sense. Their skinny pants make the whole look very stylish.

Blogger Teena Vallerine said ... (1:26 PM) :

Did they burst out laughing as soon as the photo was done?! Glad to see we're not the only ones shivering in summer. Although in England there is a tendency to denial and we continue to wear inappropriate clothes from May to September whatever the weather! It's summer and we will wear skimpy because we're that stubborn!! t.x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:04 PM) :

LOVING the scarf work by the one on the right. They look so ready for fall.

Great shot.

Blogger Johanne said ... (2:09 PM) :

Cute cute cute cute cute. Weird in a good way...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:26 PM) :

Eerily good looking, times two!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:17 PM) :

They are so stinkin' cute.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:57 PM) :

I am sorry for an offtopic but.... "Storialist"?? "Cartorialist"??? I can understand the Sartorialist's influence on people but...come on! Don't you have your own invention in coming up with a name for your blog???

Blogger Vile said ... (3:59 PM) :

Nice brown shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 PM) :

Your shots have been increasingly amazing recently. I'm very much in love with this picture. The girl on the left is wonderfully dressed.

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (4:06 PM) :

cute twins! they look so cozy in their layers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:25 PM) :

I LOVE these girls!

Blogger Yanti Amos said ... (4:53 PM) :

As an identical twin myself, I can definitely vouch for the fact that, as like-minded siblings, you can find yourself leaving the house wearing similar outfits. Or as happened frequently growing up with me, arguments can be caused because "You copied MY look! Go back and CHANGE!"
I like the vibe here. They may or may not have consulted one another before leaving the house, but they've each expressed themselves with a similar cool relaxed interpretation of how they'll approach their day. Jorge is right, not all of us can try this look at home. These lucky ducks look great in skinny jeans. Twins rock!

Blogger Serg Riva said ... (5:51 PM) :

With enchanting hair, anything is possible.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:02 PM) :

This shot has a certain eeriness to it! The way the two girls stand so stiffly and without emotion just freaks me out! Like their poses, their outfits have a very Amish vibe. It is quite interesting that these girls are actually city-dwellers. This is a very stunning photograph, even if the fashion doesn't really speak to me.

Blogger AnnaCatherineQ said ... (7:26 PM) :

o my good lord! i L-O-V-E the outfit on the right!!! so ridiculously aesthetically pleasing!

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (7:49 PM) :

Love this!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:52 PM) :

Love the one on the right
effortless

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:14 AM) :

i love this

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:05 AM) :

come to berlin!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:47 AM) :

Sat 10:26
It's not cold yet. It's turning fall, but as you can tell, the grass is green, the trees have leaves. We're not living in igloos and darkness...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:10 AM) :

Black clothes really suits the guy and the girl on the picture. I'm gonna buy my sister and my cousin one of these

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:46 AM) :

yes anon @ 5:47, but its quite possible to have 60 deg and green grass no? 60 is too cold for me, me being from the tropics and all. anyway, it is my misconception, true, that its perpetually cold in northern europe with short summers. that's the impression i got looking at all the pics of folks in stockholm in august with their wonderfully cut, beautifully coordinated layers of outerwear.

Blogger Miguel said ... (10:17 AM) :

Twins or sisters???? I like the clothing but it is too much for where I live... in the tropics.

Blogger Laurence John said ... (10:57 AM) :

i don't understand people who seem to think a photo of someone is lacking because it doesn't include a smile. what sort of false utopia do they live in ?
can they not appreciate melancholy or ambiguity ?

Blogger Cate O'Malley said ... (11:08 AM) :

I really like the girl on the right. Of all the pictures from Stockholm, why is there only one person smiling? They all look so dour, save one.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (11:28 AM) :

cute sisters!

Blogger Maggie May said ... (11:47 AM) :

It's about their faces here, and not the clothes. Look at those faces!

Blogger jessica said ... (1:55 PM) :

it's fall in stockholm already, huh? i'm so jealous...
these two are the cutest.

Blogger ricola said ... (2:06 AM) :

twins! At first glance I thought they were a couple. I like how they "match" in the sense that they compliment each other wonderfuly

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:10 PM) :

We Swedes tend not to feel very comfortable when people are looking at us, which might explain the lack of smiles. That said, I would count the expressions of the man in the striped jacket and the man from Södermalm as smiles, although hesitant ones. BTW, the style of the twins is very common among young artsy people in Sweden.

Sart: Thanks for your lovely work. Too bad you missed the warm weather we had in July here. They made a very interesting interview with Sart on Swedih radio here: http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/P1/program/artikel.asp?ProgramID=478&nyheter=1&artikel=2266493.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:24 PM) :

Looks like they could be in those Verizon "Dead Zone" commercials...

Blogger Ms. S said ... (11:07 PM) :

I can't wait to start wearing long sleeves and scarves again...le sigh

Blogger Angie said ... (11:50 PM) :

There's something so humorous about this picture but also so elegant. Fascinating.

Blogger Austin.Garnett said ... (2:57 AM) :

10s!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:58 PM) :

How haunting. They look like the kind of twins that should possess ESP, or maybe they should be in some stylish fashion astrological calendar and represent Gemini.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:37 PM) :

they look a little creepy but in a adorable way... its cute!

Blogger Stephanie Dee said ... (10:45 PM) :

oh! I love their music.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:17 PM) :

Beautiful shot! I love that vivid green grass against the subdued colors of their outfits. They have a similar fashion sense but clearly different personalities. I could have sworn the one on the left was a boy before I noticed she was carrying a purse.

Blogger addictedtoysl said ... (12:29 AM) :

Children of the Corn goes Swedish

Blogger N icole said ... (7:02 AM) :

2 thumbs up! :D

Blogger Chris Johnson said ... (12:48 PM) :

There is something extremely chic about the composition of this photo. haunting...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 PM) :

I know the twins and I wish you should see them smile, they are the cutest and sweetest girls I've ever meet!

Check ou there music it's wounderful!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

Interesting people, boring clothes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:40 PM) :

its like tegan and sara only stockholm style.

Blogger Rhys said ... (11:08 PM) :

I too immediately thought amish when i saw this photo! Maybe its the hairstyles and the straight poses.
It does seem very american gothic-esque.
I also think that they both have a totaly androgynous look that could look equally as stunning on a slim male (I'm even thinking of trying the hoodie/long scarf out for myself

Blogger pia john said ... (12:08 PM) :

Taxi Taxi!
I recognised them right away when I got the Sartorialist book and I was flipping through it. They're just too adorable.
