the balenciaga bag looks fake to me, but she carries the entire outfit well

Blogger Sage said ... (8:34 AM) :

she's beautiful and has endless legs. where is this? looks parisienne. i like how she tops off her casual look with a blazer, the flapper headband is a nice touch, and great shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:35 AM) :

she looks very lonely

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 AM) :

The composition of this photograph is as striking as the subject. I love the balletic grace, the expressions and the framing quality of the background figures. Subtle movement in her hair suggests calm in the center of swirling activity. Beautiful.

Blogger Bellarmine said ... (8:42 AM) :

Cool cool style! Lovin it.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:45 AM) :

it seems a scene from a musical!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:53 AM) :

WOW!
i've fell in love with her outfit ;-)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

a little too trendy. like she threw on everything she saw in a magazine and didn't edit or make it her own.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

this would have looked so much better with a proper pair of jeans; the top part looks great, but to me the bottom part fails to deliver

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:09 AM) :

the shoes in this photo are spectacular. esp. the woman in the white trench. ow OW!

Blogger STEFANIE said ... (9:09 AM) :

Perfect shot. I like the energy that comes from the people standing around the girl. Great work as always mr. Sartorialist.

Blogger clairehelene7 said ... (9:11 AM) :

This photo is magnificent.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 AM) :

i love the shorts with tights underneath - the whole unpolished, yet polished look. i think her sweatshirt has simone de beauvoir on it. if anyone can tell me where to find this, i will love you forever and ever!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (9:21 AM) :

gorgeous photograph!

Blogger TMFA said ... (9:22 AM) :

I am more intrigued by the movements around her than herself. I like how the leg of the man on on the left is about to take a step and how the woman on the right is frozen in time and so on.

The style that the centre object is rocking is all right, but not outstanding.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:31 AM) :

why she laugh like a witch??

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (9:39 AM) :

Pockets hanging out of shorts? No, no, no. Shorts & coat, also no. Cute girl, terrible look.

Blogger do you like my tight sweater said ... (9:50 AM) :

she has beautiful legs and great shoes.
and this picture is pure art

Blogger mgi said ... (9:54 AM) :

high five! the most interesting picture i have seen on this site - and this is of course a site with lots of interesting pictures - for me it´s like a frozen moment of a random outdoor ballet - when the prima donna suddenly realizes that everything is transient - even my life has an end - and walks off and buys another pair of Marc Jacobs to regulate her new and intolerable insight - sweet

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

YES!!!!!!!!!
amazing

Blogger Nathalie said ... (10:00 AM) :

i love the shoes and the bag. the rest is a bit too normal.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:02 AM) :

I have to know - how much of this shot is staged?

brilliant and sweet

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

she looks like the epitome of amazing. I like how casual this outfit is not to mention the sart's brilliant photography skills

Blogger The Daily Masquerade said ... (10:09 AM) :

She looks very cute, and I think the jacket, shoes, watch and purse work very well together. But what I love the most is not the girl, it is the picture. It is so in the moment, and the contrast between her and the more tailored people in the background make the look so much more interesting. The woman to the right realy have a great smile!

Blogger Mimi said ... (10:14 AM) :

I believe that's Ida Pyk from Swedish Elle.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:22 AM) :

Oh, nice. And the woman that is laughing, haha.

Kiss.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

She has geat hair. Other first impression - her outfit is a Pretty Woman redux...

bebe

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (10:30 AM) :

this portrait is great-looking.

i love the subject (she's perfection) and i love all that action/life going on just behind her.

so FANTASTIC : )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:31 AM) :

Bravo!!!

i love her shoes!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:32 AM) :

blah...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:33 AM) :

oh she is wonderful.

Blogger B. FLY AND THE CITY said ... (10:43 AM) :

THAT BALENCIAGA BAG IS STILL ALL THE RAGE. SHORTS COUPLED WITH BLACK TITES AND A SHOE THAT POPS...OH AND THE LITTLE HAT ON HER HEAD. LOVE IT ALL!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:46 AM) :

Love the fabulous gold shoes, black stockings and cut-offs! And I especially love how they're so short, the left pocket is poking out from underneath. God, that detail bring me back to the seventies. So hot.

Amazing bag.

And she has such presence.

Blogger jorge said ... (10:49 AM) :

looks like barcelona. she's gorgeous

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 AM) :

Wow, this is honestly what I dream of looking like.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:51 AM) :

As soon as I saw this, it reminded me of http://www.ecsd.us/staff/meberhard/theatre/Les%20Mis%20Face.jpg

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 AM) :

i hate the fact that she carrying a fake bag... it goes against everyhting fashion is supposed to be...

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (10:59 AM) :

Great shot- I love the animated gestures around her while she stands so stoically in her pavement "spotlight". The man in green pants on the left seems to simply be turning to reach for something but looks af if he's saying "Taa-daa!" and doing a dance step. Are we in Russia now?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 AM) :

she's cool. I like her bag, what's that? balenciaga?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:13 AM) :

the photo's stunning! she seems so still amidst the moving crowd

love the t-shirt and the shoes :D

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 AM) :

The perfect frozen moment in time. I love how it seems like she is paying no attention to the commotion around her, but to you and you alone. Great shot.

Blogger jkh said ... (11:29 AM) :

very nice pic.
great composition.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:32 AM) :

perfect moment... the movement of this photo is lovely..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:35 AM) :

Scott, you remind me Richard Avedon, although your photos are more spontaneous than his. You have the talent to make very good use of the opportunities. This photo is great, with its contrast between people around the central (and serious) girl in "laughing and dancing" attitude. Have you ever thinking about group your most artistic photos in an art book? Yes, because you're an artist.
That photo of a man in smoke is another one I really have enjoyed.
Congratulations.

Blogger Demi said ... (11:40 AM) :

love this, its very rock chic!
x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:40 AM) :

Lolita is lovely, but my eye is drawn to the laughing all American girl on the right and the dancing man on the left. I'd love to know the back story on them.
Sart, you write with your camera!

Oh, and I like the big watch face.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 AM) :

Apart from the great shoes and hat, for me there is no evidence of personal sartorial style here at all - it's pure Kate Moss. Sure, she looks good but this look is ubiquitous among skinny young things. What i am drawn by is her beautiful face and haunted eyes framed by a perfect haircut.

Blogger redcatbiker said ... (11:42 AM) :

I find, as far as the photograph's composition is concerned, that what is going on in the background, the movement in the background (the woman in the white coat with her mouth open; the man on the left-hand side seemingly caught in a dance move) complements the subject's stillness and mildly dour facial expression.

It is a very nice photo.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:43 AM) :

kinetic

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:45 AM) :

That's in Milan right?
most of all, love her wath!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:49 AM) :

I have to say-- I don't like this at all. Everything she has on is so "bang on trend." The Erin Wasson cut-offs, the Himdmarch bag...giant yawn. Sorry! I like people who disobey rules-- creative dreamers, not hipsters.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:51 AM) :

very cute, love her shoes <3

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:00 PM) :

I believe in tough love and I think you get WAY too many compliments as it is already. But, gee, that is a fun picture!

Blogger La Clocharde said ... (12:11 PM) :

I like it, but I don't love her outfit that much (although I want her bag!!).
What I adore here is the fabulous picture you took, how she is so static there, surrounded by all the other people moving. It's like if time had stopped for here and everything else in the worl kept it's natural rythm...
Fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:23 PM) :

can't go wrong with lotta leg and lotta youth.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:26 PM) :

despite your constant praise which always turns me off to this site, you can take compositionally elegant photos like this one

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:27 PM) :

Beautiful shot-truly a moment frozen in time. She is adorable.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:29 PM) :

Love this entire outfit! But the shoes are my favourite :]]

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 PM) :

Possibly the best photograph thus far. And while I like her outfit, it's hardly that. It's her attitude so completely different from those around her. Perfect timing.

Blogger Miguel said ... (12:35 PM) :

Love her watch and also the shoes of the lady in the back... Also the smile (-:

Blogger Patricia Miranda said ... (12:42 PM) :

she is so serious! even when others laugh! little bit punk but little bit classic too!
what time it is!?

Blogger Matilde said ... (12:55 PM) :

everyone is moving around while she's so still

Blogger Amy said ... (12:58 PM) :

I love all the action going on around her.

And - is that her pocket sticking out of the bottom of the right leg of her shorts? Cute.

Blogger Bluetramontana Style said ... (1:13 PM) :

incredible shot...

Blogger The Spelunkers said ... (1:15 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 PM) :

love this. saw her on one of the other days, she looked stunning!

Blogger That Girl Ang said ... (1:20 PM) :

OH She is SO cute! Lovely photo - I like how everything is still happening around her...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:27 PM) :

I enjoy how she put this outfit together. Everything from the oversized wrist watch to the out-of-proportion bag to the wedges with socks. The details make this outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:40 PM) :

It is that dancing leg that makes this shot Scott. Always a daily pleasure to see your fine work.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:55 PM) :

I love this look. She keeps it fun, but with an understated sophistication.

Blogger Dominica said ... (1:55 PM) :

Like it but I also like (even more) the lady on the right, especially her shoes and that glimpse of a Chanel bag ... !

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:02 PM) :

FABULOUS! One of my favorite pictures here!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:03 PM) :

i think this is a wonderful photograph, and it's not because the girl has good style, she does; but the narrative is so captivating. I've always loved your pictures, they capture our time with a timeless essence. It makes me think of robert doisneau, it has such narrative

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:05 PM) :

I love the contrasts of the colors!

Blogger smokeswirls said ... (2:16 PM) :

I absolutely adore this look. It has just the right amount of funk/punkiness that so few can actually pull off. I especially love the accents that the watch and the gold shoes add to the entirety of the look. It really pulls everything together.

Blogger Jaime Randle said ... (2:24 PM) :

Well, she's precious. I love everything about her life in thie photo from the headband to her great haircut to the pouty lips to the huge-faced watch... etcetera. All of it. Delish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:31 PM) :

like the shorts

Blogger Marquis de Lannes said ... (3:00 PM) :

J'adore!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:08 PM) :

Great shot !
Rue de Rivoli, I guess...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:25 PM) :

Wow. What a great photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:43 PM) :

The guy half-hidden on the left looks like he's dancing some sort of classical cellphone ballet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:47 PM) :

just such a great photograph...
perfect spontaneity, perfect contrasts of color and movement/stillness.

i literally can't stop looking at it over, and over.

her style is very kate moss, but more charming, more playful.

Blogger Jack Daniel said ... (3:55 PM) :

This looks like a scene from a musical.

How'd you set this up, Scott?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 PM) :

this is Ida Pyk, she´s a model and a writer/blogger for swedish Elle. her tshirt is by swedish designer Lovisa Burfitt, who works from Paris! love the photo, sart!

Blogger Terry said ... (4:31 PM) :

Love everything everything about this photograph! And those legs are insanity.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:09 PM) :

i wonder what the background figures are doing?

i think this photograph itself is much more inspirational than what the subject is wearing...

Blogger Siru said ... (5:13 PM) :

She looks so chic and calm when looking what is around her. Crazy world against one calm stare.

Blogger Amy Williams said ... (5:22 PM) :

Great outfit, love her watch.
But the fake balenciaga really spoils it for me..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:29 PM) :

Love her shirt and the Sonic Youth shirt in the background!

Blogger Celia said ... (5:31 PM) :

This is a Nylon girl.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:40 PM) :

The dynamic of this photo is from the people around her- i threw her one look -hated the fake bag and started checking the rest of the people...lady smiling- the channel bag without it's owner- the man on the left- the lady in the back...amazing movements ....

Blogger beths said ... (5:49 PM) :

I enjoy this blog so much because it lets me be places I can't go. This photo rewards repeated viewings for that reason! The outfit's not important--or maybe it's about the trenchcoat woman's cool shoes?

Blogger CAPITAL THREAD said ... (5:58 PM) :

Very theatrical

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:25 PM) :

Perfect.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

she has awesome legs. other than that, i don't see anything here.

Blogger denney said ... (6:35 PM) :

brilliant! beautiful face.

i try this look often but it never quite seems to work this well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:52 PM) :

IN-CRED-IBLE.
i absolutely love eveything about this photo. bravo, sart!

Blogger suzee said ... (6:56 PM) :

I think this is a great capture of calmness in the middle of chaos. Yet she still stands out especially with her brooding stare.

Blogger Scott W said ... (7:04 PM) :

How wonderful! I suspect those left and right were surprised they walked into the shot and were moving away! I love how she is standing on the man hole cover (or whatever it is).

Blogger Daydream Lily said ... (7:11 PM) :

shorts and tights. love x

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:31 PM) :

The face is a young Demi Moore -the outfit uninspiring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:57 PM) :

She clearly knows that it's half past a freckle and the apocalypse is imminent. Such classical composition in this photo, I love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:49 PM) :

Hi Sart,

Please post this-its not going to be negative, its constructive criticism.

An overwhelming majority of your photos of fashionable women are young, thin and tall. Basically, I counted the last 100 photos of women (not counting kids, group pictures, multiple photos of the same woman or photos on the runway), and 83 of them had model-like proportions. 17 were a TAD heavier, and represented what I think is a closer representation of the average woman.

Beautiful, fashionable models and could-be-models are great. But it takes more effort to be fashionable when you are not a sample size 0 and work on a tighter budget. Please post more of these women, who I believe deserve more fashion cred-because it takes great personal style and an eye for things that look great on your body to to be fashionable and worthy of being posted on The Sartorialist. I would say that the woman with curves, and a height below 5'9 has to try harder to accommodate her body and therefore should be equally if not more represented on this blog-which is a wonderful collection of great fashion off the runway. It looks as if the majority of your women just walked out of the back entrance a dressing room, after just finishing on the runway.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:27 PM) :

The outfit is alright but people, the bag is FAKE! So please stop calling it a Balenciaga! I think this picture should be removed. Sorry

Blogger louise or valentine said ... (9:31 PM) :

cute sweatshirt, great miu miu shoes

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:35 PM) :

I love the expression on her face. Not quite bored, but almost there. Zoé

Blogger lady sof said ... (10:02 PM) :

overall great look! not crazy about the visible short pockets but loving the shoes!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 PM) :

I love this.brilliant! beautiful face.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:28 PM) :

it's a very nice outfit, but too trendy and not original for me. but the shot, the loveliness in the shot makes it wonderful as a photograph. :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:54 PM) :

I love all the people and activity going on around her... cool photo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:00 PM) :

okay. things i love about this outfit...the shirt, the blazer, the oversized watch, and the bag. however, i cant stand jean shorts ( jorts) to begin with and seeing them on her with the tights is just about enough to make me lose my lunch. im not much of a fan of the flapper hair accessory either.

Blogger Laura said ... (11:00 PM) :

i think this is a good example of "a lot of wrongs, making a right". nothing in the ensemble is THAT great (okay, except those shoes...and the watch, anyone know where to get it???) but all together, they make something interesting. kind of a "pretty ugly" outfit.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:20 PM) :

she's cute but the fake balenciaga really throws me off

Blogger Gaby said ... (11:32 PM) :

I'd just like to say what a wonderful picture this is. Props to the photographer. Now that's what I call talent.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM) :

God I love to give an opinion - about everything!
I think the photo is beautiful, the girl is gorgeous, a moment in time has been captured- all of the elements are there, but as far as her 'style' goes I find it bland. She looks like every second girl I see on the streets these days. I agree with someone above who said the details in the background have more going on than the outfit. I am a little bored by the magazine perfect nonchalance of her get up. How bout ditch the it bag, real or not and insert a little soul, fun and personality instead.

Blogger Michael Green said ... (12:05 AM) :

the woman in the trench looks infinitely more chic, without begging for attention. her shoes are fab.

Blogger twelve.dollar.soup said ... (12:06 AM) :

The woman in the white peacoat makes this picture what it is.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 AM) :

i really like this look. she's very put together, but it's very youthful and age appropriate. love the large watch, love the unexpected denim shorts, & love the funky shoes!
one question- what makes everyone think her bag is fake? looks good to me,am i missing something here?!
anyways, great shot!

Blogger olivia locher said ... (12:28 AM) :

this girl looks great and i love the old ladies sonic youth tee in the background.

Blogger jessicadrhp said ... (12:40 AM) :

for some reason her face looks like she had a hangover?
and pockets poking out of the shorts... i dont quite like stockings with shorts esp dark stockings. her watch is fab though

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (3:15 AM) :

I will keep my eyes open but I can only shoot what I see around me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:20 AM) :

ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL PHOTO.... not for the fashion... but for the composition.... just perfectly timed.... this could easily be an editorial

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:24 AM) :

So she didn't spend $1000's on a Balenciaga bag? Shame on her. :op

And how are you all so sure it's a fake anyway?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 AM) :

The photo: gorgeous.
The ensemble: aalllmost. The bag's a little too big, swallowing her up. The shorts push it over the edge into too trendy-sloppy territory. However, I love her graphic tee/blazer combo, and I love the contrasting dark band on her pale hair, and I almost love the tights and shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:20 AM) :

She is just standing there in a rag bag of clothes and men are going wild about her. To a female clothes enhance the body - now that is some body. I wonder what she has in the bag? Jeans perhaps!

She is a walking attraction.

Blogger farhad said ... (5:47 AM) :

As a photographer I have to say that this photo surpasses fashion. forget about her outfit for a second (which I do like but wish the pocket wasn't showing). there seems to be a great disconnection between her and the people around her. in particular, the lady on her right who is smiling. I love her melancholic eyes. there's an innocence about her, and a bit of loneliness as well. You captured the moment well. really nice picture.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:57 AM) :

The woman to the right has style.... her shoes are fabulous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:02 AM) :

I saw this girl just outside the Dries Van Noten show at the Palais Royal in Paris Fashion Week. There were lots of bloggers taking photos all around. I was sitting having a coffee in a nearby cafe. I'm so disappointed I didn't manage to spy the Sartorialist! Nice shot!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:02 AM) :

The best thing about the shop are surely the burgundy toe-cap lace-ups the chap to the left of the screen is wearing -- cobbled perfection.

Blogger Gina said ... (7:12 AM) :

Gorgeous, I love it!

Blogger António Erre said ... (7:30 AM) :

She reminds me a blonde PJ Harvey, the great.

Blogger Fashion Puzzles said ... (7:33 AM) :

what a contrast. I totally love the picture. I think you'd captured the spirit - the alienation (atttitude) but at the same time, craving for identification (style) in youth. you re an awesome photographer

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:38 AM) :

It's Swedish model Ida Pyk who also writes a blog for ELLE, lives in Paris.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:56 AM) :

I've included a quote from above that seemed so odd to me, here it is...
"Anonymous said...
i hate the fact that she carrying a fake bag... it goes against everyhting fashion is supposed to be...

10:54 AM"

My response to that is: who said that fashion was about spending too much on originals? I guess I missed that memo.

Her bag looks good. You can't touch it or read the label. I don't get the point.

Surely it's about the overall look. Not the money she spent on putting it together.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:07 AM) :

great photo!

I'll never wear such an outfit, but I find it exquisitely funny on this girl. The golden shoes are so out of context, they lift the whole look up! ;)

The only thing that really does not match are her hair... :/

Blogger miss sophie said ... (9:35 AM) :

she looks very much like an alexander wang girl - grungy ripped-denim shorts, tights and wearing black like its her job. she pulls it off well, but i think the overall look is a bit overdone at this point.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:39 AM) :

Re: Alyssa

I couldn't agree more. I would love to see more women of all ages and sizes on this blog. It's such a gorgeous blog but the lack of female diversity really bothers me.

Sart,

How is it that the only women you see around you are tall and of model proportions? You take many photographs of non-model men (which I love!).

Blogger LIO said ... (10:33 AM) :

There is so much movement and yet stillness in this photo at the same time. How terrific. I have a fascination with gold shoes and adore these.

Shout to Alyssa for her comment. I wonder if part of the issue is that thin and tall women stand out and are easier to spot. Must look carefully.

Blogger shemtov said ... (10:46 AM) :

i like the idea of the outfit, meaning the blazer the shorts witht he tights etc. but i dont like how its on her. it just doesnt feel right. i love the women in the back laughing. shes got awesome shoes. theyre something like the D&G ones. or maybe they are. with those pants.. looks like the ad! and then theres that chanel bag we see a peek of.. thats an awesome bag!
the girl looks cutely in the picture, but im not feeling the outift.

Blogger ricola said ... (10:47 AM) :

She looks great. I love the how the shoes set off her legs.

Blogger Jessie P said ... (12:28 PM) :

The photo itself is exquisite. Fabuous composition.. I'm intrigued at how it all happened.

She' s cute but not inspiring in any way. Who cares if the Balenciaga is fake or real....What is attractive about your site is the refreshing/new way of dressing vis a vie people with style and attitude and innovation. I don't see that here. It wouldn't matter how much anything cost.

I want to dance with the guy on the left.

Blogger amy said ... (12:30 PM) :

i am way, way more interested in the older, bespectacled woman in the background wearing the raymond pettibon t-shirt than anything else anyone has mentioned.
she's the one i wanna hang with.

I think, this photograph is most dramatic photograph in this blog.
absolutely fantastic!!
this is the shooting.
I am so wating for next.

I agree with amy - far more interesting things are happening in the background.

the balenciaga bag definitly is a fake
it's the size of a weekender but the weekender never has the extra shoulder strap
I don't think that fashion is about spending 1000 dollars on a bag but I do think it's wrong to wear fakes if you can't afford the real thing just buy another kind of bag
That's just my oppinion
As for the rest I really do love her outfit, It works well all together altough I'm not a fan of the cut off jeans shorts

Very Julia Roberts pretty woman stylishly revamped...

Sart! This is just a fantastic shot. Such life. Such joy. It's like a shot from a musical. It's hard to believe that it wasn't set up -- but I know you don't do that.

This has to go in your coffee table book.

Blogger Wanderlusting said ... (1:48 PM) :

I like the bag, fake or not.

WHO CARES if it's fake?

She's young and not made of money. It looks great, suits her....what's the big deal?

Some people can be such snobs about these kinds of things.

It's one thing if she has a fake and goes around parading it like it's real and lying to the world.

It's another if it's a really interesting photograph with a subject we know nothing about. Maybe she proclaims its real. Maybe she proudly says its a knock-off cuz she can't afford a real one (and in this economy, who can?)

I don't see anything wrong it, it's not defrauding anyone. If you don't like it cuz you think it's tacky fine, but otherwise I think a lot of people are being way too snobby about the whole thing. Chilllll :)

PS love the actual shot and the girl herself...not that big a fan of her style.

The shoes remind me of the the Kremlin rooftops. This is a gorgeous look, for a gorgeous woman.

i love her watch!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:32 PM) :

I don't have all the insightful reasons that so many seem to have - I just looked and this and really liked it. She looks good. I'd never wear this look, but I think she looks incredibly good.

Blogger leather girl said ... (2:35 PM) :

Upon first glance I could've sworn this was Tara Subkoff.. the movement surrounding this moment is surreal, and my favorite part of it is the positioning of her adorable gold feet within the cement circle on the sidewalk, almost as if she is a statue frozen there!

Blogger Miguel said ... (2:36 PM) :

I though it was about the looks... not the price or the brand... I still like the picture. How could I have known what kind of bag that was??? (Unless of course I live only on fashion but, fortunately, I do not).

Blogger Dallas Foster said ... (2:38 PM) :

Since no one other than Sart responded to what Alyssa so eloquently said, I guess I will try: I could not agree more.

I would really appreciate a greater range of people being photographed and documented. Highly fashionable people come from all over the world, in big cities and small towns. Not just NYC, Milan, Paris, people at fashion events. If Sart, you do "photograph what you see," perhaps you should consider trying different locations to broaden the horizons of this blog.

All that being said, I think the style here is super trendy and just generally a done look. Give me something new. I also think that her bag and shoes are ostentatious. But I understand why it's here, it's a beautiful photo that truly captures a moment. I just have come to expect a more even mix of fashion and moment.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:45 PM) :

Just wanted to add that i agree with Alyssa; I understand that in your work you are mostly around tall, thin, moneyed young women but it's easy to look good when you're all that! I find the budget outfits, the mixed ages, and the use of draping to flatter a mix of bodies way more interesting than yet more skinny, gorgeous women who can wear anything and look fabulous. To me, those 'real world' glimpses of fashion are more inspiring for my own wardrobe and means (and I don't mean go out and find all plus-size models, there is a happy medium which many people do fall into).
Much love and all due respect!

Blogger Andy said ... (3:22 PM) :

Haha, it looks like I'm not the only one to think it looks like a musical. Lots of action around her.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:31 PM) :

This photo looks like a musical. the man's leg and the face and happiness of the woman in the right. Of course the most beautiful person here is the blondie. I just think her look would have been better with silver shoes.

I'm usually too intimidated to post comments on any of these, but I've decided to get over that because you only live once, right?

I like the girl's haircut, and her head band. I like her giant watch face, too. She's so little, it is very striking. I couldn't care less if her bag is fake (ha ha ha, one of the reasons I don't post here, I don't know designer from homemade) but it looks like it's really weighing her down.

I don't really like those shorts- they remind me of summers when I was eight or nine years old and I made my own cutoffs and cut them too short.

I agree with others that the photograph is far more interesting and compelling than the outfit the girl is wearing.

I guess she just looks a little lost in those clothes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:41 PM) :

so so beautiful, stands out impeccably in a rather impeccable crowd...

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (8:04 PM) :

I think the "controversy" over the authenticity of the bag is absurd. Some people are mistaking brand name recognition with personal style- they're hardly related. One can (I shouldn't have to say) have great style without sporting one designer label.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:45 PM) :

this photo is like it was taken right off a dancing ad sequence.

magic!

Sigh. I wish guys could wear tights in this weather. Damn you Brummell! Cursed to a life of boredom.

Blogger Shaynuh said ... (9:52 PM) :

I <3 the heavy-duty satchel, the inspector gadget watch, the peep-toe platforms, the edgy blazer, the graphic t-shirt, and her blond peroxide hair! Such a rebel!

Admire how poised she is whilst everyone else around her, is merry-making! Something out of a musical for sure! Extraordinary shot! ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:13 PM) :

tights under shorts...I'm not a fan.

Those shoes on the trench lady!
FABULOUS!

Blogger Cammila said ... (11:03 PM) :

This look actually kind of makes me jealous. Not specifically of the clothes, but of the whole thing. I want to BE that girl. Just for a moment on the street.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:12 AM) :

I fell in love with her! Great shot, great outfit.

Blogger fernandomachine said ... (1:32 AM) :

Hmmm...perfect outfit as she waits to buy half price tickets to the Comedie Francaise...(I know those columns!!) I would have worn the same thing, but mexicans don't look good in gold shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:06 AM) :

i don't like the denim shorts; never like them really mostly on anyone, even those with the legs to work them. otherwise, i like her style, and she's beautiful. you can feel the life in the background too!

btw, one of these days you should try visiting hong kong--just came from there and many people there are surprisingly stylish. (my brother normally doesn't care about fashion, but even he had to agree that it was fun to look at the way people dressed there.)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:04 AM) :

Fantastic shoes! And I think that's a Lovisa Burfitt t-shirt she's wearing - a Swedish designer based in Paris with a penchant for printing Kate Moss illustrations on everything

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:19 AM) :

Great look. Her cute haircut adds to the individual style. I disagree about the 'fake' bag. Fashion is very much about creating a look. somtimes the looks reflects the person and sometimes they don't. Some use fashion to hide behind. Fashion is all about the false. Don't kid yourself!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:44 AM) :

I like how she put the socks on top of the tights...interesting. Great shot Scott! I think you have one of the most unique and sought after blogs ever!

i love the burfitt-shirt.

but the whole look seems taken out of teen-fashion magazine.

Blogger Gypmar said ... (12:31 PM) :

I love the photo--how could I not?--but the look (apart from those amazing shoes) leaves me cold. It looks more like the clothes are wearing her than the other way around.

The juxtaposition of her expression with the body language of the folks in the background make for one of the most melancholy photos I've seen on this site. Amazing shot.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:49 PM) :

I don't really care for the girl or her outfit, I can see this in Nashville where I live and yet it's posted on here like it's compelling. I find the woman in the beige coat laughing a lot more intriguing. Beautiful photograph but I thought this blog was supposed to be about style and yet I'm constantly bored with your subjects lately.

Blogger Andromeda said ... (3:57 PM) :

I love this look.
(and all the people in the background)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:10 PM) :

Great shot, pretty girl, mediocre outfit. Every other girl I see dresses in this uniform of long tee, tiny shorts over leggings, hipster headband, and black bag everyday. Interesting shoe choice, though... not sure I like it or not.

She's a pretty girl with great legs but I'm getting tired of this black tights-denim shorts-jacket look.

Blogger yu shan said ... (10:40 PM) :

wow i love her look, and i love that she didn't have to go super designer to pull it off-i'm almost certain that those shoes are from topshop!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:58 PM) :

The headband is absolutely darling.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:53 AM) :

she kinda looks like Danny from the Shining, no?

Pretty girl and lovely shot but that look is worn to death in London and pretty much every Hoxtonite wannabe girl looks like this. Very Peaches Geldof.
