never underestimate the power of stylish simplicity. monochrome dressing in a simple silhouette plus a statement piece (her necklace) equals perfection!

without the necklace, the ensemble might be too plain.

she's got it figured out!

Blogger The Fashionstar said ... (5:41 PM) :

I usually like dresses like this but for some really I don't like this at all. Maybe it's the color or maybe I wish she had on a belt or perhaps her hair could be down. Idk it just looks unfinished to me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:08 PM) :

i love the necklace and the shoes. the dress colour is amazing, but i think there is a little disconnect between the accessories and the dress. maybe its the shoulders. but girlfriend is beautiful and the lighting is stunning. it works.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:11 PM) :

Look at the sunlight behind her and all of the colors around her. It brings to life the simplicity of her pose and outfit... beautiful and natural!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:18 PM) :

It's a beautiful shot. The tunic is nice but it needs shorts or pants. Not a fan of the peace sign necklace.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:40 PM) :

I love the feel of this picture!
Late afternoon; lazy summer day . . . her shadow moving on the pavement; the light magnifying every imperfection on the antique window displaying old fashioned candy jars. And her . . . simple and serene; intently looking at you . . .
Fantastic Sart!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:43 PM) :

i love this pic and i LOVE that you are in Brooklyn-- especially in Ft. Greene as opposed to Williamsburg or something. What a great, great neighborhood and a really great picture. Keep 'em coming! and to the comment of the jars of candy; I'm pretty sure that is soap in those jars from Carol's Daughter.

Blogger Barbara said ... (8:43 PM) :

love the lighting.

Anonymous myx said ... (9:36 PM) :

very natural it compliments the dress, accessories and the sandals.

Blogger Pictures on Page said ... (9:41 PM) :

Stylishly simple! I love it. Come to Brooklyn more often. Oh, and let's not ignore the man in the lime green pants in the background, awesome.

Blogger erin nuts said ... (9:43 PM) :

I feel like lately I'm seeing looks on here that have a more "trendy" vibe. This photo is STUNNING, but from a style standpoint it makes me feel similar to the recent Sao Paolo pic with the flannel shirt dress...very cute, nice and simple, but much less intriguing than the usual Sart fare - anyone could put it together. I like simple, but simple can still be fascinating, and this doesn't really do that.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:48 PM) :

I see an echo.... her strong shoulders and the straight (shapeless) silhouette of the dress echoed in the candy jars in the window... A beautiful woman who unfortunately looks unfinished and boxy here, a little heel or a little legging could have saved the moment.

Blogger a reference said ... (10:18 PM) :

i'm so glad you're exploring more areas of nyc! i mean i love soho...but this is nice...and there is good style on the upper east...just saying!

Blogger Laura Gerencser said ... (10:29 PM) :

Beautiful!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:32 PM) :

this 'tenda roni' looks like she has fallen into the 1989 streets of Brooklyn. The man behind her is well suited for a Bobby Brown video, the bright sun-rayed leaves remind me of my 'back to school' days in junior school, and the red, exposed brick with the stained window glass just top it right off.

"The truth about Roni, she’s a sweet little girl
You could treat her real nice and hold her tight
Only tender ronis can give special love
A special kind of love that makes you feel good inside."

I really love you photos S!! And the outfit on this girl is so simple and sweet. And I love the peace necklace. Have a wonderful day! :)

Anonymous Jill Adams said ... (7:14 AM) :

I rarely comment on this blog (it all feels so... adoring), but this is a truly beautiful photo. Someone asked if the guy in the yellow pants is 'intentional' - probably not, it doesn't feel posed, but that's what makes the shot.

I agree with Ashley: it's the photo itself, more than the elements of her outfit (altho it's all very nice) - it's the way she's standing so serious yet serenely, and then your eye goes to the light in the tree and the yellow in his trousers and the line of whatever it is in the jars.. and comes back to this mysterious girl, in the center.
Timeless. It's part posed, true, but it's also the magical accident of chance.

You should do more shots in Brooklyn. We have such stylish gals and guys.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 AM) :

this shot is beautiful b/c of the light, but the woman's ensemble itself is hohum and not inspiring to me.

go down to Red Hook...still in Bkln to satisfy the peeps who want Bklyn shots - but more 'underground'/ progressive and less like a wannabe williamsburg. i bet you'll find a truly inspirational shot or two there.

ciao.

Anonymous Stoffer Ganes said ... (10:10 AM) :

Wow, what a beautiful picture - really Hopper'esque!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:14 AM) :

This is incredibly well done, both from her end as well as Sart's ability to work with the light; harsh as it was. This is probably one of my favorite photos. Simply beautiful.

Anonymous Shadow And Act said ... (12:25 PM) :

Wow. I live in the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn. I wish I ran into more women like her on my daily travels around the neighborhood :o)

Maybe there's an unexplored business model for you - a kind of dating site, featuring the people you shoot. "If you'd like to contact Sheri, click here now" or something like that.

I kid, I kid...

Blogger Shadan said ... (1:49 PM) :

beautiful picture (and beautiful girl), but i don't see what's so special about her outfit.

Blogger .kubilus. said ... (8:51 PM) :

why is everyone going ga-ga over this outfit? The dress is an awkward shape and those peace sign necklaces are sold everywhere...

if there's anything to love about this photograph, it's the photograph itself. the lighting is phenomenal, and love the soap jars in the background. the girl, despite her outfit, is beautiful.

I have to agree. The girl, and the photo are beautiful. But don't you find the baggy boxy dress with gladiator sandals is just getting kind of cliche?

Blogger hippie_cyndi said ... (6:48 PM) :

the saying cloths don't make the man/woman applies here. What makes it interesting isn't so much what she's wearing, but how the lady comes across in it.

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:37 PM) :

It's very much a Lisa/Zoe Bonet outfit. And it seems to fit this lass just fine!

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:41 PM) :

Nice, but this look always reminds me of a woman wearing one of my shirts (mans shirt) around the house. Like she's trying to be casual and a bit sexy. Appropriate for the apartment, not so much for the street. But then, I'm a bit of a prude I suppose.

I agree, with Nora, more in Brooklyn, especially in Fort Greene/Clinton Hill, the lightening at dusk is always lovely...and the store behind the woman is Carol's Daughter...well the original. Wonderful wonderful products for anyone who loves things that smell good and to have those smells on them...and it just so happens that my Mom's friend started the place in her brownstone basement...its a wonderful place to shop, highly recommend.

Ahhhh Brooklyn-I miss it so. This is a lovely picture. I was born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island but BK was my stomping grounds. I loved and still love the different looks-culture. I am now here in Charlotte, NC. I used to sit outside my friends shop which used to be on Vanderbilt at times and just conversate and people watch.
