Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:18 PM) :

That is a great coat. If I only I could be so fortunate to find one like that. I like his mixture of colors here...very stylish.

Anonymous greendress said ... (2:31 PM) :

BEAUTIFUL!

he is really beautiful and this style although typically Parisian was rendered differently because of the use of so much color.

would turn back and stare at him.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:33 PM) :

Wow, just wow
Really like the colors mix

Nice one Sarto.

Anonymous Well Done said ... (2:42 PM) :

great mix of patterns and color. I wish he wasn't on the phone.

Blogger Britt said ... (2:44 PM) :

LOVE his mix of gingham and check plaid. And the bright pop of red!! Adore him.

Blogger dark_horse said ... (2:46 PM) :

fetching. love a hot, well-dressed asian man.

Blogger Tundrababe said ... (2:49 PM) :

It is no small accomplishment to make an orange that shade work in an outfit - bravo! He's also mixing prints, and is that an ascot I see?

Blogger Alicja said ... (2:57 PM) :

This vibrant orange is great for autumnal weather :)

Anonymous davidsl said ... (3:00 PM) :

the neck on that sweater is cut way too low for a man.

Anonymous klemdr said ... (3:01 PM) :

first ! because j'aime ( yes I'm french ) the sartorialist !

Anonymous yo said ... (3:02 PM) :

Why are there only shots between saint-germain and la rue saint-honoré ? Paris has so much more to say.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:05 PM) :

love the coat!

Blogger foongfest said ... (3:05 PM) :

Wow, I really love this look. And I wonder what shoes he's wearing.

And from one IU Hoosier to another, great work Sart!

Blogger Graham I. Haynes said ... (3:14 PM) :

I just found a very similar trench in mint condition at the San Diego store Hunt & Gather. I was hesitant due to its double-breastedness, but seeing this man I am sure it was the right choice. It looks phenomenal paired with another plaid!

Anonymous Style Odyssey said ... (3:24 PM) :

yummy pop of pure color...eye-catching mix of textures, too.

Blogger Restless Mama said ... (3:31 PM) :

This is seriously my favorite ensemble yet!

Blogger Mo said ... (3:34 PM) :

Somehow I don't find the big red particularly appealing in this ensemble. A vest in a shade of purple would work better -- unfortunately purple is ubiquitous this year, and I would wear it with discretion...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:37 PM) :

Nice shirt under the V neck. Zara men.

Blogger Lolitta said ... (3:42 PM) :

oh my the colors are stunning!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (3:46 PM) :

It was great that you photographed him with the canvas bag behind him, it looks big enough to overwhelm the outfit. Like the other comments, I also like how he mixed the 2 patterns with the solid sweater in between. Jorge from WPB

Love the contrast in colours, textures and patterns. Perfection! & a little 'geek chic' :)

simply brilliant....

Blogger J. Magdalena said ... (4:20 PM) :

Double-glanced. Don't know how I feel about how deep that V is, however I love the mixture of the plaid. He looks great! I hope he already had his coat collar popped up a bit in the back and you didn't just do that for him. ;)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:20 PM) :

i wonder if you know that blog:
http://thecatorialist.blogspot.com/

its just hilarious ;) It's a great honor to be gently mocked. Hope you're into cats, scott.
Cheers.

Anonymous Slowjack said ... (4:27 PM) :

I like the mix of colors and textures but I don't care for these shapes. The coat flaring out is not attractive--he looks like a woman trying to hide a pregnancy. I try not to wear anything double-breasted unless it's kept buttoned-up, and this picture shows why. Maybe Sart told him to unbutton to show the color underneath--I hope that's the case. The exaggerated V of the vest looks silly, too. There's just too much mismatch of proportion here for me to like this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:31 PM) :

Why can't people just put their mobile away for just a moment while they're being snapped? Or is that part of the pose?

Great coat.

some people can just pull it off... It looks great. But if I tried wearing it it would be one of the outfits you put on - just to take off shortly before you leave the house, because it just feels wrong.

Blogger Emily L. said ... (5:03 PM) :

Absolutely fabulous! The mix of patterns is just perfect.
& I want his coat!!!

i usually don't like red but i like it today

Blogger Unknown said ... (11:44 PM) :

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!! I don't see what people find baffling about the combination. There are not that many patterns( just the blue check of the shirt and the prince of wales check of the coat) or colors (red, blue, and grey). The Prince of Wales check coat contains and matches the colors he is wearing underneath.

He is married yes? Even better. Wish all the husbands would take a lesson.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:04 AM) :

Perfect, I love how he wear this so naturally. both the colour and cut could overpower him or seem like a costume but instead it looks so smart and almost understated. The styling is also great with the up collar and the scarf. wonderful.

Blogger Couture Coco said ... (4:30 AM) :

Excellent shot and subject - the patterns and colours actually work are fantastic together!

Fantastic - it works so well - the patterns, the colours, and I love how he wears the scarf. Such a stylish man.

A great blend of patterns and colours. Very rich. Would have liked to have seen his shoes. I think a simple brogue would suit such a busy array.

Great to see you venturing into the rive Gauche M. Sartorialist! A wealth of classic parisian fashion looms over on this side of the river.

Blogger Amy said ... (5:58 PM) :

Nice mixing of patterns. I like how the red sweater picks up the red in the coat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:28 PM) :

The only thing I like here is the ascot. The rest I don't really care about. From the upturned collar to the patterns, from the massive v-neck to the length of the coat, he can keep it all. That stated, if he can wear all that and have a bunch of girlies profess their eternal love for him on a blog then his mission is accomplished, innit?!

Pietro

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:36 PM) :

OH MY! Awesome. great color and pattern.

xx

Blogger Unknown said ... (7:23 PM) :

this is style being thought through. The coat should be a staple in every closet - especially one that can go with jeans AND a suit. I hope it's really cold where he is, so he can validate the scarf that he has on. Either way, nice.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:48 PM) :

The shot will be different if it has been a full bodied shot including the shoes...

I love how the red vest creates such interest in the photo. All of the other colors are so muted and then the pop of color looks great!

Blogger chayaleeeee said ... (2:36 AM) :

Great coat!! Not loving the kerchief thing though...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:15 AM) :

L.Vega 7:23PM, the ascot can be worn in summer under a shirt. It's a refined way of wearing a shirt without a tie in fact and most gentlemen would wear one to replace a tie in summer. The weather does not necessarily need to be chilly for the ascot and you'd be hard pressed to see someone wearing it in winter. The ascot is silk; it's a different animal from a scarf.

Think English manor, think library, smoking jacket, monocle, think smoking a pipe, think trophy wife; all that's missing is the ascot. It's a very refined look.

I have a small collection of silk ascots from vintage Hermes to Gucci. I love them all. This summer I'll gather enough testicular fortitude to take them for a stroll in this country of board shorts and flip flops.

Don't like red on these small light blue squares...

Blogger jonzak said ... (11:56 AM) :

I'd be willing to let the Yakuza remove one, maybe even two of my fingers for that top coat.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:38 AM) :

The gent looks fantastic.

Looks like preppy, lumber jack is back.

For this guy the ascot is the top note which makes it whole.

Ascot: The most underrated item in menswear.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:48 PM) :

I love ascots. My husband wore one with his tuxedo when we got married. This man is very nice looking. I wish that more men would dress like this.

Anonymous Pat said ... (12:17 AM) :

I laughed with sheer pleasure at the effect of the whole . Starting with the haircut,to the cravat, the shirt, the coat, ,plain pants - finished by and attention drawn to that lovely sweater.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:18 AM) :

The plaid patter of his coat is bold yet elegant rather than garish. Thumbs up on the coat.

Blogger Wendell Mc Shine said ... (1:01 PM) :

Yeah ¨D Boss¨
A work of pure art...Sweet.

Blogger Jason Wednesday Miller said ... (4:00 PM) :

while the jacket is a great piece, I think you loose his face/head with all the patterning that is gathered around the neck. A different shirt perhaps, r possibly not such a low cut V-neck sweater, or even a more muted red for the sweater.

However, this is something I would probably wear and not give a heck what anyone thought of my outfit!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:52 PM) :

He's Chinese....

But he's gay. Sorry to disappoint you ladies.

Blogger adambryant said ... (6:48 PM) :

coat is BEAUTIFUL - incredible cut.
and his layering and colour sense make me want to be his friend.

Blogger Andreas said ... (6:21 PM) :

The overcoat is definitely something I would wear, the pattern is so nice. But what I like the most with this outfit is the wide opening at the neck of the red sweater, I think that the pattern of the shirt, combined with the pattern of the overcoat, makes an exciting look.

Anonymous Jacquelyn said ... (6:30 PM) :

I love the bright red with the coat. I wish my husband would wear this.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:28 PM) :

If the V-neck was a few shades darker, I'd be all over this like white on rice.

Anonymous Guga said ... (4:47 AM) :

red and blue... together are like super hero combo.... i couldnt pull that red off by itslef the coat is awesome.... has the movement..its really amazing when u start to think about .. how am i goin to present myself to the world... and we all know its a mass production of clothing... etc etc... but each one has a distinct look.... thats what i love about fashion...

Anonymous Jii said ... (5:11 AM) :

Interesting that so many people dislike the deep V. With his posture, and with the contrast of colour it gives the effect of plumage on a bird. The V creates a framing for his face, and creates a natural line drawing out to the shoulder, an inversion of the fla(i)red line the jacket traces from his ribs. It gives him a masculine chest and strong shoulders and gives him a waist. A composition with an intriguing palette.
