Wow, what a dame!. Her pendant looks very interesting indeed!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:49 PM) :

This is actually what I want to look like when I'm her age. Forget the sexy Parisian smoking women, forget the smart aristrocratic British ladies. I want to look like a cross between a shock poster and a Mona Lisa. Love.

A very distinguished looking lady.

she has a very interesting face, that's the only thing *

it's nice to see a woman like her age, she still
looks glamorous! i like her big pendant!

Blogger Café Naïveté said ... (3:09 PM) :

Elegantissima!
I love the fact the elder women in the mediterranean countries maintain their traditional elegance and still take their time to dress up and put their best jewels on and the best coat they have and go on a walk with their husbands, girlfriends, dogs, cats.. for a show-off and don't abbandon themselves because of the years. GREAT! I love them:)

I've seen that woman tons of times back when I was in school!! I can't believe she's in here, but indeed, she's very elegant and cares about her looks. Not every woman at her age puts lipstick on everyday.

I agree with Merilin. There is something really beautiful on the Spanish tradition on looking your best. There is a care and an appreciation of yourself and the people around you, that I find very touching. Give me that anyday instead of a pair of sweat pants.

This is how to differentiate someone who's got style as opposed to someone who just buys a different catwalk each season.

Long may this woman, and similar others show that difference.

Anonymous Darcy H said ... (5:30 PM) :

Her freckles are distracting in a Lauren-Hutton-gapped-tooth way. I'd be proud if she were a relative of mine.

She's glam alright, and above all she OWNS IT at her age, not at someone else's. We all could take a lesson.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:26 PM) :

My first thought was "Dear God, what is she doing here"? And then I swallowed me knee-jerk reaction and took a closer look. Sure, some of her style sense may look dated or out of place, but here's an older woman who took the time to have her hair styled, put makeup on, and carefully assemble her outfit. Sure she's no supermodel, and I'm sure she knows it. But she still finds joy in fashion and presentation. Huzzah to her! And huzzah to you Sart, for once again showing us that a love of creative fashion is not exclusive to beauty, thinness, youth or money.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 PM) :

So sad: I wish she didn't feel as though she had to hide her beautiful face with so much toxic makeup. Let your lovely wrinkles shine!

Anonymous John M. Doyle said ... (8:01 PM) :

"Anonymous @ 6:26" (almost sounds like a biblical quote!), you are absolutely on target: what is to be celebrated is the joy in being who we are in the manner in which we present ourselves to the world. Yes, it is easy to be oh so fashionable and chic when you are young and have money, but if you are lacking in one or both of those areas, that hardly precludes an ability to be fashionable-in fact, it can often be a spur to greater creativity.
Regarding this particular shot, I think that it is very well-timed given that this is Thanksgiving week. Why? I think that this woman, who has obviously made some effort to present herself to the world, gives a great demonstration of the idea of being grateful for who she is. She can be no one else other than who she is, just as none of us can, other than by modulating the public face she shows to the world in the makeup, accessories and the garments she selects to wear every day. Living in the fashion industry as I do, it is always the most rewarding thing for, not only me personally, but also. for so many of my colleagues, to see the joy people take in making their best appearances to the world, particularly when they fall outside of the conventional standards of beauty. As I age, I am often reminded by my older clients of the importance of humor and gratitude for whatever life throws at you, even when it is not something you want to deal with.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:24 PM) :

This is why I love your blog. She's got style--the red lipstick, the big mabe pearl earrings, the fur coat, the necklace, the hair fresh from the salon, clearly.Scott, you've got such an eye. MORE LIKE THESE!

Is she fabulous or what?! I love that you posted this photo! Older women like this inspire me so much! Sure, she's not the most beautiful woman in the world but she's classy and elegant and has a beauty all her own. I can just imagine her gabbing in a fabulous Spanish accent with some other ladies that are just like her. Love it.

Blogger Big City Nights said ... (12:41 PM) :

Fantastic face. The earrings and necklace remind me of my Grandmother.

Anonymous Carter Smith said ... (12:48 PM) :

I love this so much!!! This reminds me so much of my grandmother in her day. By far, the art deco necklace is what pulls you in. That is such a timeless piece!
I think this is the perfect symbol of what fashion can be. People seam to think that fashion is only something that "pretty" people can do. Well to be honest, most of the people I've come across with incredible fashion style don't always fall into that group.
I'm so glad that there's people like this women out in the world. They make me enjoy life even more. Good work.

Anonymous Iria said ... (2:09 PM) :

Love how the original necklace gives a totally different halo to her outfit, making it less classical but as elegant.

xo

Blogger Rosalind said ... (2:52 PM) :

This is the kind of women we should be applauding, those who refuse to have plastic surgery and wear their life on their face. In my opinion she looks so much more interesting- you can tell she's really lived life.
This is a different type of growing old gracefully, but no less effective.

http://clothescamerasandcoffee.blogspot.com/

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:12 PM) :

I think she would look better with a bit less eye makeup. The lips are fine and her eyes would come out prettier with less blue and thinner, lighter kajal. Her hair is sweet. The fur collar gives a neat foxy look!

Blogger T. said ... (3:17 PM) :

She is so beautiful in her own way!! I love this photo, her eyes tell such a great story!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 PM) :

I have to take the time out and comment on this Image . If any thing , Stop And look at her .
Her Eyes , the shape of her bone structure . This woman was ,In her day very beautiful, and it shows . Shes like a steam ship old but still graceful .
And ..Yes.. I also covet her pendent and coat .

Anonymous robin said ... (3:57 PM) :

I noticed that my heart softened as I watched this image unfold on my screen.
So elegant. Such a sly, mischievous smile. She has a secret, perhaps?
Sometimes I'm afraid of aging. But ha! Why?
Thank you Madame for saving me!
Love from Vermont

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:34 PM) :

Real. Not beautiful, somehow stuffy and a little decrepit. But what a capture of the aging process of a grande dame. The expression on her face is so soft, as soft as the fur on the coat.

Blogger Rebeca said ... (4:34 PM) :

I hope that when I am her age I have the dignity and the brio (and the fur coats) to live life like she does.

Anonymous Scoob said ... (12:33 AM) :

WOW - life experiences have clearly shaped her face;

the first thing that comes to mind is her great style; then the sparkle in her eye;
the time it took to put herself together;
and last of all, how surreal she looks, but so-very-real at the same time!

I love it. this is how we should all live our lives - to the fullest!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:46 AM) :

No surprises!! Very typical upper-class old lady from Barcelona!!! You must have a look on the preppiest streets of BCN,(like Bonanova, Passeig de Gracia, Mandri, Muntaner, etc..) and there are plenty of aged woman like this one. She remembers my grandmother or my mather -in-law. Always perfectly dressed, always carefully hair-dressed, etc... And the most important, always perfect for the bridge game, or the tea-time. A true classic here.

Anonymous Yu said ... (5:50 AM) :

Beautiful photo. The whole look is amazing but the eyes make everything come together and give it something of depth ... makes you ask questions about her ...

Blogger Gerard said ... (6:29 AM) :

Not so long ago, it was norm for old well-off women in Catalonia to dress like this, with all the makeup and so. You don't see it that often these days, well done!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:17 AM) :

AT LAST! You've made it to Barcelona! Keep seeking and shooting, you'll find a lot of very self-conscious fashionistas here with the occasional delight of a true find. This lady would be defined as "una senyora com cal" (which means something like, "Now that's a real dame!")

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:59 AM) :

For anyone who has spent any time in Barca or the surrounding area, this picture just screams "I am CATALAN!" Love it, and miss Barca, Badalona, Manresa, Girona etc.....

Yes, PLEASE more older women to go with your "old man style" features! Love this blog. Thank you!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:43 AM) :

she has an interesting life to tell .... you can see it in her eyes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 AM) :

One of the many things I love about your blog is the fact that you record the style of men and women of all ages and races.

Most fashion magazines are dominated by images of very young girls in clothes you have to be well into your 30s to afford to buy. Unless the the designers only want heiresses, rock stars and models as clients they might do well to emulate you and not just in the "age" issues.

I love this subject's old school glamour: the sheared furs, the pedant necklace and its interplay with the print she's wearing, and especially the big lipstick. Thanks for sharing her with us.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 PM) :

OK, now I have been to Barcelona and I was looking all the time for this lady. I did see men and women of her vintage dressed in their classic clothes strolling the avenues and I thought "Catalan!"
This picture horrified me at first, I guess because of the age spots. But she really grew on me and now inspires me. She faces life headlong and uses the perks of age, fur, jewels, attitude. But I still put on my SPF 45 every day. Please go back to Barcelona and take more pictures.I thought they were really stylish there.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:34 AM) :

I think she looks rediculous with all the makeup.
