I don't know why but I find this kind of creepy and beautiful all at the same time. I love the tones and colours - this photo could have been taken any time in the last 40 or 50 years (but for the brand new looking vespa). It's beautiful.

Lovely. I wonder if he is Roman or Roma?

I saw a similar man playing in a similar alley in Granada this summer, playing to pay for an eye operation according to his sign. Made me sad.

Such a BEAUTIFUL photo Sarte! I believe your work is becoming more and more refined!!

Blogger 82Brute said ... (6:47 PM) :

I never knew it was possible to hear and smell a photo.
I could cry.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:16 PM) :

The perfect lights you get in your photos make me mad. I feel like throwing my Canon from the bridge...

Anonymous nj82 said ... (9:02 PM) :

I love the photo, but i loathe these begging accordeonplayers. They do not know how to play besides 3 notes. I worked at a shop who had one sitting in front of it every day, making a very good income while driving me crazy with the endless repeating of 30 seconds of the same tune.

Anonymous Elle said ... (9:07 PM) :

May I have more of this please? This is beautiful, these last pics are sooo charming!!! The light the colours!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:56 AM) :

Blogger The Owl Diary said ... (10:49 PM) :

Now this is what I call capturing a moment. Makes me want to be there, hearing the music. ♥

Blogger Cristina Feather said ... (11:00 AM) :

I guess this is both romantic and sad, and he's probably a romanian perfermer...

Anonymous jj said ... (6:49 PM) :

Such interesting shots on your blog, wonderful shots of people, slices of life, very impressive

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:37 PM) :

Ahhh! when i was in Rome there was a man who played the melodica outside our apartment EVERY day he would play the same two or 3 songs on loop and hassle us for money EVERY day...but looking back it was a funny memory, and apparently a very "Rome" thing to experience. The gypsy presence there is a bit like the presence of the homeless in SF.

Anonymous HandyMan said ... (8:22 AM) :

This photo is amazing, the light is perfect

Anonymous Catalin said ... (2:45 PM) :

I know this guy! He is from Botosani county, Romania. I remember him back in the old days when he used to be part of a band that played at weddings. The world is such a small place after all.

Blogger Dianne said ... (7:42 AM) :

Hmm, he may be from Romania, but from what I see I can tell he's a gypsy (which is different).

Blogger akatriel said ... (6:22 AM) :

Yes there is a slight chance to be romanian, at least he doesn't beg but sing for money.. Nice shot though!

Blogger Nathalie Hachet @ LBM/ Mirabelle said ... (7:35 AM) :

Now here's a friendly-looking street figure who, for a change, holds something that doesn't resemble a phone, an IPod, a cigarette or an ice-cold expression...

Blogger O. Falcon said ... (4:27 PM) :

he plays down the stairs from my home, vicino via dei chiavari

Blogger Zum Zum said ... (10:37 PM) :

I think he's gipsy.

But good picture anyway.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:24 AM) :

very nice photo

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:55 PM) :

I bet he is Romanian - Romanian gipsy :-) singer

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 AM) :

Gipsy is different from Romanian!!!

Anonymous Megan M said ... (9:13 PM) :

This picture caught me by surprise, because when I was studying abroad in fall 2009, my friend and I traveled to Rome. She took a picture of this man for her photography class - and he was in the same exact spot on the street wearing the same exact sweater. Amazing how the same street performer catches the attention of two different photographers, even years apart.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 AM) :

Gipsy or not...Romanian or not...he's a human being and the picture is more than great.

Blogger Kate's Place said ... (4:36 AM) :

The best thing about the pic is the GORGEOUS ACCORDION!!!!!! man, that is one banging squeezebox!!!
